Avian Gamers Network

So Im playing WoW today and I notice that my pings are spiking every so often. Thinking it is the game I relog a few times. Then I notice that my internet as a whole has dropped to almost nothing. I look at my wireless - which I stupidly do not have secured - and it is going gangbusters.

Unplugging my wireless router and switching to a regular one my connection goes back to its normal high rate. No more than 10 minutes after doing so I get a knock on my door, it's my neighbor asking me is my internet is down! WHAT!

Turns out he was using my wireless for downloads! What KILLS me is that is not only admitted it but came knocking on my door to find out why "his" internet was down! I was absolutly speachless I literally did not know what to say. That was 10 minutes ago and I am still dumbfounded by this guy.

Unfreak'n real the balls on the guy. I almost turned it back on just becuase he had the balls/nerve to knock on my door.

but, you know what it's like when you go from broadband to nothing! I'd probably ask as well. He probably figured that you were providing a free service if you didn't secure it and you were broadcasting your SSID.

I think it's outrageous. Should be criminal, if it isn't. I would repeatedly throw rocks at him until I felt better.

My sister-in-law did this for the last couple years in college. She lives in NY City and says that everyone does it. No big deal. Pfff!!!!!

Bandwidth is a very personal private relationship and should never be compromised like that.

I'd turn it back on, but restrict his connection to like 20kbps...just enough to make him think there's still a chance it'll work.

I live in an ethnic neighborhood called 'Little India' so everyone that lives in my building speaks little to no english, Im not quite sure what he was thinking but he clearly knew it was my connection as he asked specifically if 'my internet was down'.

If I had a T1 or something I probably would never have known, but one person playing an MMO and one person dloading makes for a very laggy connection.
