We do intend to announce a new product at the Worldwide Invitational next month in Korea, and we appreciate the enthusiasm and interest in getting an advance look at what that will be, but players will have to wait until May 19th to find out more. Also, we have a very strong connection with the characters and settings of StarCraft, and we do plan to revisit that universe at some point in the future, but we don't have anything new to announce in that regard at present.

My guess would be a Diablo MMO. Meh, they should probably just release it as an expansion pack to WoW. That dimensional ripper the Dranei brought in made it easier for Blizzard to mix more crap into WoW. I would like to see them just update that. Have WoW be the all-purpose MMO for all of Blizzard's products.

However I'm hoping for a new SC MMO but more than likely the writer is correct and they are just porting it to Xbox360 or something stupid like that.

What they are announcing will be a new Starcraft. It's a religion in Korea.
But most expect it to be Starcraft 2, rather than an MMO.

You're very right about that last bit! I've been using a little Korean internet cafe to connect to some resources for school (hotel internet = so-so connection at best) and every last machine is running Starcraft and all it's expansions. I worked there until about 1:00am a few days ago and by the time I left nearly every machine was in use playing Starcraft - frankly it was pretty impressive to watch the speed and accuracy with which they (about 40/60 female/male ratio) were playing the game.

Do you think if it was open 24/7 that the people would leave? Kind of funny if you think about it. The only reason they probably stop playing is because the computer starts to melt and breaks down. lol

Heh, actually, this place is open 24/7. The latest I've ever been there was the 1:00 am I mentioned earlier. No one looked like they were ready to drop then. :)

I hope blizzards next MMO allows for a bigger sand box element concerning the crafting/resource/business side of the game; allowing for deeper and rewarding specialization in the games various professions. I look at Eve and can help but wish that WoW had skills that were similar in effect to Eve’s skill trees such as trade, social, industry, etc.

I love WoW, and think it is an amazing game. It freaking owns most other MMOs on so many levels. One of the best things about it is how you can have a good time playing the game different ways.... You can quest, you can run instances, you can do battlegrounds, you can play the auction house, and you can focus on advancing your profession. Depending on the amount of time you have available and the goals you want to accomplish at any given session, you can play WoW many different ways.

However I do feel the crafting/resource/business side is weaker than I personally need for my own degree of enjoyment. Blizzard has amazing talent, I just hope this is an area they improve in future games.... and I hope it is not an area they strategically avoid in their MMO template. My opinion is that the current game is wonderful. Improve the business player side of the game and they can win more market share.

Thats why WoW never held me past level 25.

Nice move indeed!

That's from last year when f13 reported on a Vivendi presentation to the Stock Market that said all Blizzard IPs will become MMOs.

CVG have just said it will be a Starcraft MMO, but they are most likely just guessing too.

I find it hard to believe it won't be an MMO. The success with WOW has gone beyond anyone's imagination. There's got to be tons of pressure to duplicate that. Let's remember that Blizzard has a parent, and all they will care about is profits. In the past, Blizz has done a pretty good job at making games they want, when they want to. The money being made from WOW has got to change that philosophy fundamentally.

If they had come out with a WC4, it wouldn't have done a fraction of what WOW has achieved. Why on earth, from a business perspective, wouldn't you develop SC and Diablo into MMOs?

Personally, I think it's a crime that they have let those franchises gather dust like that. How many developers would give their children to own those names? But weather as a gamer a SC mmo or SC2 would be better, I'm unsure.

hmmm.... If I recall, Warcraft 3 came out a relatively short time before WoW. Could this be a forerunner move to set up marketing for World of Starcraft?

yeah, it's possible, but they'd have to kill you if you knew that.

If they made a World of Starcraft MMO it probably wouldn't bring Blizzard much more money. It would mostly cannabalize their subscribers of WoW.
