Stay away from Travelstar laptop hard drives....

They blow up.

Guy was using his laptop in a presentation... he hooked it up to the projector, booted fine and started to give his presentation. Little bit in the laptop started making a wirring noise, then a fairly audiable thump/crash sound... we investigated the problem took the hard drive out... right away we knew he was screwed. just a shake of the drive sounded like sand was inside.... we opened it up and found the above scene... damn that was cool.

Bah - I bet he staged that because he didn't have the whole presentation ready.

i think he should be happy there werent small shards going through the casing of the hard drive, now he only has to replace the hard drive, if they went through it would be a little bit more then that

did he fail his presentation?

the platter on a laptop hard drive is less than 1/2 mm thick, theres no way the shards could have made it through the metal case of the drive.... i'm guessing theres some reason for it to be designed like that.

as for failing his presentation... i doubt he was being graded on it, was most likely a mild inconvenience. Was a project laptop, so wasn't his anyway... was communal.
