Since I recently formatted and reinstalled Windows XP, there are a ton of little settings that I had forgotten about and have to go adjust now, lest I be driven out of my mind. I haven't even been able to get SWG installed yet. I've been fighting my sound card for a good while.

One of these annoying things that I can't seem to remember where the option is: How do I turn off the auto-insert notification, so that every time I put a disc in the drive it doesn't try to read it or launch it or install something? I thought you could right-click on the device in the device manager, go to properties, and just uncheck it. But I can't find it there anywhere.

You aren't supposed to to that it seems... Here's how you do it in Win2k, probably the same method in XP:

(1) Open the registry editor (Regedit)

(2) Click <Start>,<Run>, and enter REGEDIT in the run box. Then click O.K.
and navigate to the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\CDROM

(3) Once you have found that key, then highlight “Autorun” and click <Edit>, <Modify>

(4) Now set the entry of the Data value Autorun to 0.

(5) Click Exit, and then restart Windows 2000/NT.

There is a more "regular" way to do this but can't remember...
Just a temporary tip, you can hold Shift down to prevent auto-insert notification
