I have this file that I need to access that's in .wks format. The problem is I don't think I have anything that will open it. I looked around and saw the program it was made on was Lotus, but I don't have it. I was told that Excel should be able to open the file, but it won't. Anyone know how I can convert it so that its readable on excel?

Humm.....

If you want, send it to me and I can see what I can do with it. I am relitively sure Excel should be able to open it... if not I can take it to campus and open it in Lotus, then save it as an xls or even a txt file.

did you try starting up excel first, and changing the file type that is to be opened....

In Excel...use File>Open and change "Files of Type" on the bottom to the wk? Lotus 1-2-3. Then see if that opens it in excel

Your right Obo, it is also an MS Works Document, but if you look at the list of File Types that Excel will open...it has two "wks" types...one being MS Works, the other it shows as .wk? and calls it Lotus.

I'm using Office XP version of Excel

Well when I open it it tells me it isn't a recognizable format and loads it up with mostly symbols.

I don't have MS Works either.

Welcome to the horrors of MS Works....

I was stuck with MS works for a while on a computer, and every document I made, I had to create from scratch again, as Word and Excel did not convert the files as they were supposed to. I have shunned MS Works since that experience. Every conveivable text converter I tried failed.

I wish you good luck, you are going to need it....
