Just wanted some reviews of KoTOR, before buying it.
And there is one important question.
The fighting is that turnbased or realtime?
All comments are welcome.

Fighting is realtime, but you can pause it and assign orders to your party members.

As to reviews?
KotOR is what Jedis in SWG should have been :)
Its a good game with good story.

KotOR is the game that made my wife stop playing SWG.

By default, fighting is set to pause when you see a new enemy allowing you time to plan your attack. But you can disable this if you would like a harder game.

After playing SWG for so long, I found movement in KotOR to be difficult at first. I found myself wishing for mouselook and wanting to switch my alt and ctrl keys so that it would be more like SWG. By the time I got off the first ship I was better at movement, but those first few minutes drove me crazy. I forget what settings I changed, but I know I did several things to make movement as close to SWG as possible. If you have not played SWG you may not have these difficulties.

I liked the head gear, implants, and the ways you upgraded your weapons. I wish SWG had these things but I think if added to SWG they would need to be more robust and complex than they are in KotOR.

I only played through the game once, and it was cool to be a Dark Jedi. Your character turns pale and ugly as you venture down the dark path. I was disappointed that your support characters did not change appearance as they journeyed down the dark path with you. I hear in the new game they will. I ended up only playing with a few characters. Some of my favorite times were with the three force chicks. I had each learn different trees so that together we own any situation.

I was disappointed at how little you needed to depend on the other characters throughout the game. The game has so many characters, but you really do not need any of them as you progress.

I was also disappointed at how many of the talents were not needed. I can not remember them now, but basically 90% of them are useless. The game will assign them for you if you are not sure what you need… but the game assigns the useless ones so I find that not very helpful.

Some parts of the game are long…too long. I got restless in a few areas because I was ready to move on.

Overall I liked this game. While I was playing it I found myself more and more disappointed with SWG… so play at your own risk.

There are more than one way to solve most problems in the game, depending on what your preferred playstyle is. Thats where talents come in. You dont have to use them, but you can if you want to.

Computer Use = Fun but high skill level not needed. The higher this skill the less spikes you will need to use... but the number of spikes you find in the game makes it so that you do not need any "computer use" yet still be able to do what you want with computers.

Demolitions = setting or disabling mines. Sounds good, but mines do so little damage and are easily avoided... so not necessary.

Stealth = Fun but not very useful. No stealth when in combat, so use it to sneak past enemies, or set yourself up to ambush your enemies. Good for RP, but enemies die just as fast if you take them on straight up.

Awareness = Dont waste your time. This skill allows you to spot mines. Yet with 0 awareness you will spot them just fine.

Persuade = Only good for main character. More skill in this area gives you access to new options when talking to NPCs.

Repair = Just like Computer use. Fun but high skill level not needed. You will find enough repair parts in the game to fix anything you come across even with little to no repair skill. The only exception would be that if you play a droid on your team, he will need repair skills to heal himself.

Security = Lockpicking... useless. You can use a sword or Lightsaber to open doors and containers. If your want to RP this skill would be useful.... but from a skill management standpoint, this skill is not needed.

Treat Injury = Best place to dump extra skill points. This skill increases how much hitpoints are recovered when using stim packs.

*************************************************************

When I played, the only ones useful were Treat Injury and Persuade. Not having the rest did not affect my game at all. I really wish they would have put in parts of the game where having some of these skills would have been needed to access locked parts of the game.

This is looking good, but I need more.
The layout, clumsy or logical.
How much does it get ya? Like Diablo 2 (yes Diablo fan, sorry) or is it one you can rest from.

Excellent game. I put it down when I hit Genosis (sp?), but I expect to pick it up again soon. Some very good gaming moments.

Better than average in terms of logical layout.

How "addictive" is the game?
If you start the game and go on for a short time, how much "hooked" are you. How much do you want to keep playing?

Best RPG PC game I've ever played.

I played through twice. I would give you my copy but it is on Xbox and I might actually want to go once more before KotOR II comes out.
