Don't blow it... I just finished Ravenholm.

Took me a while because I tried to only kill with the can of paint or radiator. I love the radiator.

This is a spoiler free zone! :)

If we find someone to host, we might be able to set up an Avian Night and do some HL2: DM or even CounterStrike. Maybe during a down time between WoW some where. Not on my system to check if that info from the link I had works or not but from what I'm reading from the net multiplayer HL2 is possible.

Anyone see any cool mods in the works yet you have your eye on? For me the best part about HL1 was the extended gameplay provided by all the mods (Big "Natural Selection" fan). I've seen a few interesting ones, though no releases, I'll post links if anyone wants later, not on me right now.

Oh oh oh- I just saw this-

Quote:
Here is the commands to get coop working
net_start
maxplayers 5
deathmatch 1 (yes you have to use this to respawn)
coop 1
sv_lan 0
map <mapname>

-applaunch 220 +map d1_trainstation_04 +maxplayers 3 -console -developer 1 -heapsize 580000 -ip your.ip.here -port 27016 -sv_lan 0 -coop 1 -deathmatch 1

COOP HL2?! Neaaaat. That'd be fun to try too.

Here is a screne of a FIVE person game of friends-

Though you can't see all the players, their models are the ones that are all "ghosty".

Relaunch your Stream connection and it should update with a patch that should help with the shuttering/audio problems. I've barely had them but have started to notice them more and more but hopefully this cures the rest for me as I progess. Also another little teaser at the end of the patch update-

Quote:
The changes in this release are directed at reducing the problem some users are experiencing with sound stuttering. The sound stuttering is not indicative of a sound problem, sound stuttering is only a symptom of texture thrashing on your video card or AGP memory. For information on how to reduce texture thrashing visit this link on our support site:

http://steampowered.custhelp.com/cgi-bi ... _faqid=280

This update will fix sound stuttering that users were experiencing that would last for longer than a few seconds during normal gameplay. This update will also eliminate this same behavior following a quicksave or autosave. There will still be a short pause while the autosave happens, but not the more drawn out stuttering behavior.

We are still investigating another performance problem on some hardware, which will manifest where the game is getting into a state where performance drops to less than 5 fps and does not recover or crashes.

Next week we will be releasing the Source SDK, along with a surprise for the community.

Another bread crumb from Value! Their new update is only the word "SOON" and this image-

Image

The image file is named "HL2DM.jpg" and seems to show a scene that COULD be from an offical HL2 Death Match game! Tomorrow would have been a week from when they posted about the upcoming "surprise" for the community but nothing new yet.

Gamespot has this too-

http://www.gamespot.com/news/2004/11/30 ... 14195.html

Quote:
When Half-Life 2 was released, many were disappointed that its only official multiplayer mode was Counter-Strike: Source, a re-creation of the original terrorists-vs.-commando Counter-Strike using Valve's Source engine.

Well, it now appears that may soon change. When it released a patch for the stuttering problem that plagued many Half-Life 2 players, Valve announced that the game's Software Developers' Kit (SDK) would be released with a " surprise for the community."

Today, gamers were given a pretty strong hint at what that "surprise" would be. An image (pictured) appeared on the news page for Steam, Valve's download service, which appears to show a multiplayer deathwatch set in a map from Half-Life 2, not Counter-Strike: Source. A quick right click of the image gave further credence to this since, since it is name is "HL2DM.jpg"--the "DM" presumably being for "deathmatch." Above the image was a single word--"SOON."

[UPDATE] Well, "soon" turned out to be sooner than everyone thought. This evening at 8:05pm PST, Valve posted the SDK bundled with "Half-Life 2: Deathmatch." Steam describes the game as "Fast multiplayer action set in the Half-Life 2 universe! HL2's physics adds a new dimension to deathmatch play. Play straight deathmatch or try Combine vs. Resistance teamplay. Toss a toilet at your friend today!"

Since it is only available via Steam, the service was quickly overwhelmed by eager downloaders. Forum posts by those lucky enough to get Deathmatch complained of a variety of problems with the 32MB download, which is a separate executable from Half-Life 2 and includes two maps based on levels from Half-Life 2's campaign: dm_lockdown, which takes place in a rundown prison; and dm_overwatch, which takes place in the desolate streets of City 17. Players start out sporting Half-Life 2's gravity gun, but will also have a pistol, SMG, and grenades immediately at their disposal. Some of the game's other weapons such as the shotgun, crossbow, and magnum are strewn about each map, along with health and armor power-ups. Half-Life 2: Deathmatch offers a variety of selectable player models, including men and women of the resistance and some combine troopers, and contains a built-in server browser for finding open play sessions.

Valve also announced a Half-Life 2: Deathmatch Map Making Contest. The top entry will $5,000 cash, while two runners-up will recieve $3,000.

GameSpot editors managed to download Half-Life 2: Deathmatch, and will have further impressions of it as soon as possible.

I'll be back with my review... if anyone cares lol.

You should add it to your list based on the single-player alone. Everything else is gravy (and there will be plenty of gravy).

Marrok is right, the single play portion is great. All the extra stuff, Counter Strike: Sourse, HL2 DeathMatch, up coming mods are what makes the game such a value in the long run.

Ha! I just tried a deathmatch game (they had to do another update today because whatever they did last night accidetly kept people from playing) and it is total mayham. A bit laggy, but I bet people well set up servers that are more stable and more optimized for this mode soon.

At one point of the match, I was chasing down a guy in an empty room divided by a chainlink fence. I thought I had him trapped as I tried to shoot him down, but wouldn't you know it, he used the gravity gun and ripped the fence right up and then smashed me agaist a wall!

It worked fine for me through that part. I'm guessing you walked all around and jumped and shot everything to try to trigger it. It seems to me that a trigger was not properly triggerd (you didn't step on something important or do something important)...

As a full member you have a wide selection of member's forums to barge in on. Here on the public forum everyone can freely voice their opinions, ask questions and share information.

Go ahead, don't be shy, Dozer!

I had that problem too with Alyx on the previous elevator part. If you didn't get past it already, add -console to shortcut, bring it down in-game with ~ and enter "ai_disable", then bring console back up, then bring it back and type "ai_disable" again.

It'll refresh ai commands and triggers, but if it doesn't work just load to a spot before you meet the female sci.

Hey Zarek - That's a good idea. Are you a console whiz, or did you pick that up on a help board? If so, which one? I've always been interested in building MODs, and like to read about it.
