Here is a detailed description of every board on our forum with the permissions for each one. Please feel free to use this as a reference so you know what permissions you are supposed to have. If you're missing anything please let an Admin know. If you have some access you aren't supposed to have please let us know of that too. Failure to report any "extra access" may result in disciplinary action.

Why can't deptuty directors post?

I'm just curious as I've forgotten; I'm not complaining.

Cause it was decided! Reasoning being something along the lines of a section being unified so that Director and DDs don't offer conflicting versions of the Section's view. There were other reasons too, but it was discussed so long ago I can't remember any more!

Yeah, its always been that way. The discussion for DD permissions went on about 2 years ago so I couldn't tell you any details.

So basically you can post in the BoD, but you may not. Leaving the permissions like this saves us Admins a whole lot of time so we'd greatly appreciate it if people didn't take advantage of it forcing us to change this practice.

It does save the BoD time too. For example, if a Director goes AWOL and the Chairman wants the DD to step up all they have to do is let the DD know and they're all set. Otherwise, they'd have to tell an Admin first, and we'd have to change the permissions first.

DDs have BoD read access so they will be up to speed should they need to replace a Director. Originally they had no access at all, so read was considered a luxury.

In the old days the BoD forum was extremely orderly. Voting rules were strict. Sometimes single post input would be requested from each section. New directors where hard enough to keep to the rules, let alone a DD. Besides a DDs duty is directed more at conversing with the section, not the other directors.

Also, there was a question originally whether or not we even needed DDs. They were added, as stated, in case of the SD going AWOL, and also to help the SD with the section. The BoD forum is best when there is only one voice from each section involved. IMO

So froom what I understand the SD talks with the rest of the BoD, while the DD talks with section along the SD.
Or is the DD pretty much a failsafe, with no duties until the SD goes AWOL?

It is best if the DD talks to the section in conjunction with the SD. Some DDs know their SD enough where they know how their SD would like news and polls conducted in their section. Other DDs may not have a feel for fair and balanced questioning, or news ready/not read information... DDs who are not familiar with their SDs preferences should PM their SD to coordinate information until they feel comfortable enough to work independently.

The way it has been in my section, the DDs duties would be:
-Take some of the conversation load off the SD (news, plans, and opinion polls)
-Familiarize himself with past and present PA issues (what is/has been discussed/decided, and why)
-Be ready should the SD need to step away for a while (notified leave of absence, or AWOL)

I think the actual role of the DD is up to the SD, however, at the very least the DD is "a failsafe" in case the "SD goes AWOL".

I agree. The SD and DD should talk it over and decide between the two. Which is why the DD is an appointed position.
