Hi Guys,

Been away for a week, but I've also been having some compy issues lately.

Here's the story.

I was playing WoW before I left, and I started to get the motherboard heat warning. (You know that internal speaker beeping)

My Compy is about 2 years old, and I put it together with help from my brother in law. I installed the diagnostics app and saw that these days my compy is idling at about 51C, and the alarm goes off after a few mins of 3D gaming at 60C. I've not done anything to the compy lately, so I'm a bit miffed at this. I'd rather not rip it apart again just to reapply the heatsink and the Arctic Silver, but I can't think of anything else to do.

Any ideas?

This is basically keeping me from playing WoW.

Can you reset the alarm threshold in the BIOS? Push it up to 80.

I could.....but at what point do I really worry?

My concern is that this is new......

60 degrees is not so hot to begin with, your PC should perform ok within these parameters.

I'll throw it out there...

have you checked your case fans lately...and just generally within your case. Do you have a lot of dust? I hadn't cleaned my case and fans for over 2 years and when I did...temps dropped a few degrees.

What dbakke said. Most likely cause (other than general wear and tear) would be dust acumulation.

A quick clean and my idling temp seems to have dropped 8C!!

I must say I am a bit shocked at the results. I better take a shower myself, who knows how dusty I am!?!?!
