Anyone familiar w/ this awesome site. I came across it yesterday looking for a copy of Colonization. Played Col for a while but ended up downloading XCOM and playing for maybe 6-7 hours.

What an awesome game that was and still is! I am staggered by how much gameplay that it still has.

They have a ton of games there. Had fun just going through them all.

Worth a check in my book.

Colonization? lol! Man, I haven't played that in what seems like a decade. The only thing I remember that sticks out is finding gold, moving it to the shore to get on a boat, only to be attacked by Indians.. over and over again. Good game!

I just checked out the site.. Thank you! What a riot. The games there read like the files I had available on my BBS back in the day lol.

Colonization is still a great game. Simple and deep as Sid has ever made.

I love the choices in the game. Do you cooperate with the natives? Do you kiss the Kings ring or dump goods? Do you buy what you need or try and develop everything in your towns?

Awesome strategy.

I still have a cd..........

I haven't played it much in the last 2 years or so. I'm still hoping Sid makes a Colonization 2.

Colonization.... man I loved, and still do love, that game

My first game was as the Dutch and tho I tried the others, the whole privateering and trading advantages the Dutch had kept brining me back.

Another gem on that site is Syndicate. Try that one if you haven't before.

Isn't it amazing? It could possibly be the most perfect site for a 30+ gamer ever created.

Just downloaded Panzer General.

Goph - did you get Col to work? I installed but can't get it to load from either DOS prompt or windows shortcut.

I did get Colonization to work just great. Played 3-4 hours last night. This is cutting into my

I unzipped into a new folder then let it install itself. It created the MPS/COL folder and double click the COLONIZE file. All this right from XP. No DOS box or anything. Same for XCOM.

Mole, I haven't seen anything that I need to pay for?

I've always had a problem running older DOS games on Windows XP. Two things have helped out a lot. First, being the easiest, don't run it from Windows by clicking on the file. Go to a command line from the run command. Like Start, Run, type CMD, then head out to where colonize.bat is and execute it. My problem with Colonization this time was the screen would be black and that's it. Soundcard problem. Try downloading VDMsound. It's a DOS sound emulator. Once installed, you can right click on colonize.bat and use the Run with VDM option. Works beautifully.

Thanks Tetran. That was my problem last night. Didn't have the patience to problem solve at that time. Went and played some Civ 4 instead. I still have Colonization on floppy disk  that's how big of fan I am of the game. Wonder if my a:/ even works... not that I need it for this since there is a sweet, tight DL available heh

Hope it works for you. I got sucked into 2 hours of Colonization time today... darn Iroquois keep attacking them offering me coats. "Sorry for the bloodshed kimosabe. How about a nice duster?"

Ha! That's why I am afraid of intalling on the work cpu.

As for your Iroquois problem, wipe them out, all of them.... I traditionally do not let them stick around very long as they always get mad at my industrious tendencies and need to get into prime lumberjack squares.

It's a truly fascinating game because of stuff like this. I'd love to cooperate w/ the natives but in the end we both want the same land and resources. I try very hard to stay friends but sooner or later there's little alternative other than wiping them out. Sounds pretty historically accurate to me.

The most challenging way to play is as the French and do everything possible not to piss off the natives. Or maybe playing as loyal subject to the king and not persuing Independance.

Anyway, fun to able to play it again.

Got a link for that VDMSound thing Tetran? My yahoo search only popped up what appear to be fairly old versions of a WindowsNT version.

I think MSDOS 7.0 is only part of win 95 or 98. I don't think it was ever released separately.

I'm pretty sure 6.2 or something like that was the last DOS from MS that was stand alone.

But there is prolly a DR or PC DOS version out there somewheres.
