The expansion will be about $30 bucks for CD and no extra payment. Thats what they all are.

I'm having trouble seeing how they will fit the expansion into the game for someone who does not get the expansion....

for instance, will they see player ships?
will they get some message if they try to get in one?
assuming they cannot ride in one? even as a passenger?

Just seems odd to me...like when you update a game to a new version, the others playing with you need the same version, or you can't play together....see where I'm going with this....

It will be a forced expansion in other words.... I will more than likely buy it anyways if I am still playing....

I don't think it will be forced. We already see space ships .. so, all they have to do is add graphics for the new ones. The expansion part will be the new profession(s) and the ability to fly it and go in space. I would think if you don't have the expansion then you would not be able to fly one .. something like that. Just my opinion .. I mean, how in the heck can they expect everyone to get the expansion and be ready to install by the time they update the servers? I'm pretty sure that will not be the case.

I can all but bet that a PS (player Ship) will not be able to be flow "on planet" It will be the type of thing where you "borad" the ship and you load screen into space.
I seriously seriously doubt that we will see hundreds of player ships flying overhead.

I agree with moge.

I predict that it will be a loading process where only SE owners can load into space, and those that do not own the SE will recieve a message telling them that they must own the SE to go beyond this point.

A patch is about the closest you get to a "forced expansion" in MMOs. The SE won't be forced. Like Moge and Cyrus, I also doubt player ships will be on the planet. There will most likely be some sort of game mechanic that loads you into your ship and sends you off (like the current shuttle transportation).

Expansions can and must fit into the game with the understanding that not everyone will get them. Look at EQ, which is going on its seventh expansion. Players can have the original and any assortment of the expansions. There are simply game mechanics put in place that don't allow players without expansions to access player content. For instance, in order you have a horse, you had to have the Luclin expansion, but all players could see horses (the art was patched). As there aren't really "no drop" items in SWG, any new items/equipment/etc will most likely be available to everyone. So some content you will benefit from without even getting the expansion, but not nearly all.

yea im thinking something like a Shuttle to space dock ships or something that "shuttles" you to a ship docked in some orbiting shipyard.

This sounds like the idea that will probably be done. You'll probably load on to a public shipyard and launch your ship from there or something. Or if you saved or quit out in a safe zone in space, you'll load in space or something on your ship.

Very likely they'll implement something like this. Which is really too bad. Being selfish and thinking of the smugglers, how immersive is that???

Ok, I have a cargo full of spice I'm trying to get to the surface of an Imperial-patrolled planet. So, I drop into orbit and call for public transportation to come pick me up? :P In any case, it'll be cool have our own ships and hopefully, they'll adopt the previously explored idea of 'landing' a ship the way we currently plant a building.
