This is due in large part to the fact that it is unplayable on my system. The fact that it is unplayable is the largest bunch of BS I've ever encountered in software. Everytime I try to launch the game, it gives me this message:

Quote:
Conflict with Disc Emulator Software Detected. See www.securom.com/emulation for more details.

I did the damn diagnostics stuff and sent it to them like the website says, and did a bunch of research on the problem on the 'net too. I did find out what the problem is. I have Nero Burning Rom 6.1.3.6 install on my PC. If you have Burning Rom 6+, or a variety of other programs (any computer with daemon tools, nero burning 6+ , alchol 120, clone cd, blindwrite and any cdrom/dvd rom which has 'blackmagic' reading) it will not work.

Neither will this list of games: ut2k4, pandora tommorow, far cry, painkiller, bf vietnam all high profile games.

Nero Burning Rom is a legal software application with legal purposes of use. The fact that a game company will try to dictate which software I may or may not have installed on my computer is complete BS. I'm so ticked off I may never buy a game again. I'll pirate everything I possibly can just to try to hurt these companies bottom lines. I'm sure there is a workaround out there somewhere, but I'm too agravated to go looking for it. You know that every software protection can be broken, and the hardcore hackers will play it free anyway. So why piss off the legitimate purchasers of a game with stupid software that will be worked around by the very people you are trying to protect against anyway?

That's really kinda sad. It really does make it a big headache for the legitimate and casual consumer, while being a minor speedbump for a hacker/pirater.

Hope you do get it working though. And while I think this issue takes anit-piracy pretty much too far, I don't think I'd go 100% piracy all the time over it. I like to reward the game companies for the entertainment that they make, so I really try to buy as many of the games that I want to play as I can.

Well, I did get my money back. I had to bitch to two different managers for nearly 40 minutes at Wal-Mart, but I finally got them to refund me the money with a gift card. I have to spend the money at Wal-Mart, but I probably would have anyway, so that isn't a biggie.

They almost didn't go for it, though, as the copyright laws don't allow for returns of opened software. I pointed out, though, that it doesn't say anything about it on the box, and that I just bought it yesterday, so there is no way I could have played through it. Also, since I was complaining about anti-copy protections that wouldn't let me play it, they assumed I couldn't have copied it. I didn't, but after that I'm not too keen to play it.

And yeah, Marrok, you're right. Its just that I don't buy a lot of games anyway, and when I do, it really bothers me that they don't work due to anti-piracy measures. I still probably won't pirate most games. It is just too much of a pain in the butt.

I use Daemon Tools to save wear on my cd rom drives.... and to speed up access times.... for a company to dictate what I can have installed on my computer is illegal....

KoToR is now one game I will not be buying....

I use Daemon Tools too, and my UT2k4 just works fine. But clearly, it's isn't this way they are going to prevent warezing.

First of all. I use all thoose programs. Alcohol is still exprimential, 'cause some of my friends recommended it. But my Computer is fine and I play UT2K4, far cry (demo) and BF:V with no problems at all.

I'd say somethings else is wrong. I usually don't belive in the diagnostic other than my fathers or my own.
I've worked with computergames since the age of 2, began fixing problems myself since the age of 5, so I usually know what i'm doing.
But I can't help you from here.

The FarCry demo obviously wouldn't be affected, as it isn't trying to prevent CD burning. Do you get the same release as the U.S. and Canada does for software, or do you get a European release? Often times they are slightly different.

Securrom support sent me an email today with a "patch" for the game, since I followed their troubleshooting and emailed them with my complaints. I did get the no-CD crack for the game off of gamecopyworld.com, but if I have to pay a game to use a no-CD crack, that is the hight of irony.

Use Nero 5.5, or whatever version which is not what you currently have on your computer.

My brother uses the current Nero software you have on your computer Cetera, and hasn't had a problem...so maybe you're just cursed..heh

I have Nero on my PC and ran the game without problems (not sure what version of Nero it is though) also the european release may not have those anti-piracy bits. I don't think piracy is as much of an issue here (and I believe that in the UK, there's a slightly different, and more consumer friendly, way of dealing with piracy).
