I have a problem with my dxdiag. It says that my processor is
AMD Athlon(tm) , MMX, 3DNow, ~1.2GHz

when it really is
AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2800+, MMX, 3DNow, ~2.1GHz

I was going to send my dxdiag file to a CSR when I stumbled upon this. Do anybody know why my processor is listed wrong?

When I ran a dxdiag test 4 months ago it was listed correctly, but now its not.....

it could be that your BIOS settings are wrong...check the FSB and clock multipliers are set correctly..

how do I do that?

When you boot up, there's a key you press to enter BIOS. Usually it's f2 or f4, or on mine at least, but I could be wrong.

hmm, this might be the reason...although the difference in processor speed is pretty wide. To check it though, you just need to enter your bios and see if the speed is not set right. This is usually only a problem with a new computer. On older windows computers you usually get the "hit Del to enter setup" while it is booting...I can't remember how to get to bios on XP, but I think you hold a function key down while the computer is booting...F5,F8, maybe F12. Yes the difference is big but then again all CPU's are clocked using very high multipliers.

so for instance if you are set to 100MHz FSB then a 1.0Ghz cpu would also have a clock multiplier of 10 to get the 1.0 Ghz clock speed.

I suspect that you should have a 166mhz or 200 FSB so that would account for a large gap if it has been reset back to 100mhz.

Wermas, what type of motherboard are you running if you can tell me that i should be able to figure out what seetings you can run.

Its also important to know if oyu have installed any new ram in your machine because this could be overriding your FSB settings.

I entered the bios and goofed around there looking for the word FSB
Anyhow.....this is what I found.

System performance Auto
Cpu fsb clock 100mhz
fsb/dram ratio By spd
current dram clock 166 mhz
fsb spread spectrum 50%


Is this what you talked about blackjim? CPU fsb at 100 mhz?

That's what he's talking about...

I have an Athlon XP 1800...it was supposed to run at 1.53 Ghz, but it was running saying in Windows that it was 1.1 Ghz or something like that. I changed the FSB mhz from 100 to 133 and bingo!...it was working corectly after that.

your cpu usually resets from 133 to 100 after a power outage or some other funky shutting down of the computer you might have caused or had been caused.

You should be able to get to 166 for a 333 board.

So try to set it to 133 first and reboot, if your system is stable then go back and try changing it to 166, if that makes your computer lock up - you will need to reset the bios (find the manual - it just means finding a jumper and changing it to the alternate setting for a few seconds andback again.)
