Symantec.com has a free virus removal program for the virus if it is the one I am thinking of

http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.sasser.b.worm.html

Just follow the link the the removal tool. Also there is a critical Microsoft update to patch the hole in Windows that it uses.

I heard there was a new worm out this week. It is attacking using a known error in windows. If you keep yourself patched up then it can not hurt you because this error was fixed a few updates aga.... but people like my dad, who do not keep their PC updated are vulnerable.

Also enabling a firewall, like even one such as the Internet Connection Firewall built into Windows, will help to prevent getting it in the first place.

This worm hit my campus between yesterday and today, and proceeded to infect every computer-based testing workstation we have... and it's finals week. I've really never seen something spread so quickly. We imaged a lab this morning and they were all infected easily within an hour, if not less time.

Needless to say, I got a nice 8-5 day as a part-time working student... heh, so this is what real life is like? :P

ok after hours of work I finally got this off my GFs comp.
Looks like the MS patch does NOT remove the virus it just keeps you from getting it again (stupid).

Also, on her infected comp we could no access Norton or McAfee pages so I uploaded the fix tool to my site and she dloaded it from there. All is fine on her system now.

If you need the tool here it is:

http://swg-decor.com/FxSasser.exe

hope this helps.
