Post subject:  How is Galaxies?

Hey I joined avian when I first heard about the game around beta I. Anyway I was thinking about the game a while ago and I was just wandering how is it? Does everyone like it? I got into beta 3 and just didn't find the time to play it, so I figured I shouldn't buy it; though I am interested in star wars battlefront. Hope yall are having an awesome time w/ the game.

There is a lot about the game that is good and fun. My feelings are the smart people are the ones who waited to buy the game. I was not one of them; I bought the game as soon as it was on the shelves. There have been many fixes and improvements to the game over the last year.

  • We now have mounts we can ride, as well as 4 or so different types of vehicles.
  • We now can make and live in Player Cities
  • Droid Engineers got some love when the droid system of the game was improved upon. There is to be another fix for droids to come later, which will add combat droids to the game.
  • Image designers had major improvements added a patch or tow ago.
  • Several great dungeons have been added to the game.
  • Jedi are in the process of being fixed. They sucked at first, but now everything about them is being changed for the better.
  • I know I am leaving some other good things that have been added to the game.

To be honest with you, there are many things about the game and more so the developers that have me feeling more negative about SWG than positive. Just about the whole game has been, or is scheduled to be redone… and even though it is all needed, I am left with the feeling of “What the hell was beta for”.

  • The Galactic Civil War is in desperate need of a makeover. The desire to play as a fractioned player is missing from the game. All faction items suck, and too many exploits exist, so right now spending faction points on bases and what not is really just a waste.
  • Also the whole combat system is scheduled to be redone… something that we have being waiting on sense last Christmas. Thunderhart (now a dev) answers many questions for us as part of this or that community relations activity. However many of us are sick of every answer being “wait for the combat balance”
  • There is an exploit, that the Devs have known about for 5 or 6 months, where anyone can master Merchant then drop the profession yet continue to enjoy the benefits of the profession. This hurts all real merchants… a fix is in the distant horizon, meaning a long time from now the devs plan to start talking about a fix. ETA, I guess, is a year away.
  • Many of the developing resources have been taken away for the existing game in order to work on the expansion (Jump to Lightspeed). This has many upset because their profession like smuggler, and bounty hunter are having to wait until after the expansion before they will see time on the fixing table.

Summery: I am happy to have been part of the game. The game looks great, and is very stable. Some of the professions feel like the extent of their planning was preformed on the back of a paper napkin. Many professions are waiting in line to get some loven from the developers. I feel like much of the past fixes should have been handled in beta. Basically many of the woes the game has suffered have been things that a good beta would have got, but because beta was way to short, we had to pay for it all.

It's fun at the beginning but when you reach high level it becomes pretty repetitive and boring, not counting the devs...

I stopped playing 3 months ago but I doubt the core of the game changed since then. I'm waiting for patches and/or Jump To Lightspeed to start thinking about playing again.

I am in a crafting trade that works pretty well as intended (Chef). It did not a first, but it received what we refer to a developer love several months back and got a revamp. There are a few buggy things in Chef still, but all games have that. I still play and do so most everyday.

Several other crafts work quite well also.

I got interested in SWG because of the promise it held for crafting. For me it is the best crafting game in terms of complexity that I have run across. It is challenging and still has elements of discovery for me. I am still learning how to do what I do better in terms of making a better food/drink or aquiring the resources to do that, then managing the process by which I sell my products.

I like it.

As an armorsmith we were recently told by the Devs that were all to damn smart... Or so they think..simply because we all figured out that if you get the highest OQ and SR materials..and you use them in the crafting process where those materials are asked for you can achieve 71% Bases and 80%Special Resists...The Devs have stated that this number is to high..and they never intented it to be such...

Other then that lots of fun running around killing things as a Rifleman..or TKA back when I did that...Selling Armor etc.. good stuff
