So, I've been having problems with my comp lately. Its because I do a bunch of shit I'm not supposed to do, I'd imagine, but something is really fubared now, or at least potentially fubared. I just reformatted my computer, and mostly have everything up and running. The main problem that caused me to format after conferring with some work buddies is still going on, and is this: I cannot send outbound emails with attachments from my computer. I've tried using Outlook, I've tried using Outlook Express. I've contacted my ISP, they had me set up different settings, disable my anti-virus, disable my firewall, uninstall both, etc. Both are Norton, both are fully updated. I get an error message whenever I try to send an outbound email with attachement. It is something along the lines of " SMTP Error 579: content not acceptable here. (0x800CCC61) I don't know if the message is exactly that, but the error numbers are exact. I made a point of remembering them. What the hell do I do to try to fix this? My ISP suggests I reformat again. I didn't do the quick format the first time, I wrote 0s to all sectors of the drive, and did a completely clean install of XP Pro. Stuff I've installed since getting Windows up: Video drivers Creative SoundBlaster Audigy drivers Office 2000 Acrobat Reader DivX and video codecs Norton Utilities 2003 and Personal Firewall (LiveUpdate ran completely and successfully) Nero Quicktime cable modem drivers Windows Media Player 9 WinRar Kazaa Lite I'm pretty sure that's all I've gotten installed. I have not installed all the Windows Updates yet, but they all were installed before, when it quit working. It has not been working for 3 or 4 days. If I use their online webmail site, attachements go through just fine. Does anyone have any ideas on this? Also, the Office 2000 is a hacked version that registers and updates just fine, without having to have paid for Office Professional. |

how big are the attachments you are sending? Is the ISP blocking the file size? |

It is a word document, not all that big, a one page resume. I don't know exactly what the file size is, and I don't think they are blocking .doc attachments. I'll try zipping it tonight, though, and see if it goes through. |

Does your ISP provide a webinterface to your mail account? Try sending through that |

Hmm, this error is common when you get a recipient that blocks emails for some reason. Are you sending the email with the attachment and then getting a bounce, or are you not allowed to send it. |

Aubai, I did that, and was able to send it through the web mail, no problems. It doesn't allow me to send mail from my oulook client, though. And it isn't being sent. It isn't getting kicked back to me, it just isn't being sent. |

And you have: * gone into Options-> Security and and unchecked all the virus protection present in OE? * Gone into IE, and removed .doc from the unsafe endings list? Just checking some of the possibilties... |

I figured it out. For some reason, it limits the size of the name of attachments, which I'm pretty sure didn't used to happen. I renamed everything to shorter names, and it went through. |
