Rocks. The. House.

Go see it.

It is to Spiderman what ESB was to SW.

Darker, has a different feel to it...

still has some good ol' comic book cheese (more than the 1st really) but the story really gets cooking in this one..

It FEELS like the Spidey comics I knew and grew up with...

Good flick indeed.

I have a friend that is a producer for one of the radio stations in town..

Get free passes to most premieres via him.

See, having a job in real life is a GOOD thing....

Now if I could only get the retards on the official message boards to realize that and for them to quit complete and total idiots... I will have done something....

I'm worried it won't do justice to the comic because I was a huge comic book kid. X-men did an alright job, more so in the second one, but I still couldn't enjoy as much because of the inaccuracies. So I'm pretty skeptical about Spider-man, the first one wasn't that great, let alone accurate.

I never did anything with comics growing up, but I did love the movie tonight. It'll be the best movie of the summer, for sure. I don't know if I would go so far as to say its better than X2, but it was extremely well done. There were parts in the movie that I totally forgot I was sitting in a theater with a bunch of other people. The battles with Doctor Octopus in the air, on walls, and generally defying gravity was absolutely brilliant. I've been waiting for a long time to see something like that. It is on the same radical new idea-ness level as the door chase in Monsters Inc.

The only complaint I had about the movie (actually, there are two) is the rather pathetic, lame, (insert your own adjective here) contrived plot device for the reason for Doctor Oct's arms, and then his attachment to them. I have no idea how they were handled in the comics, but to me it was as bad as the last 20 minutes of The Incredible Hulk where his dad goes nuts and becomes a nuclear storm. It was lame on that kind of level.

Surprisingly, that amount of lameness didn't really hurt the film at all. Once you get that messy little part out of the way, the movie is all good, until you get to the last 20 minutes of the film. That is when you think the movie is finally going to start.

Don't get me wrong, everything up to that point is absolutely amazing. But the build-up is such, and there is so much of it, that it seems like finally, we've got all the back story out of the way, lets get to the movie. And then it doesn't disappoint. The movie picks it up even more.

The scene with the train, and Doc Oc, and Spidey, and MJ, and everyone, and then the scene with the foreshadowing of Hobgoblin, and the foreshadowing of Venom, and on and on and on, it is great.

Yeah, its a really great movie. I suppose it just may be better than X2. It is a must see for anyone who likes action movies, comic movies, hero movies, or just some well done film making.

I JUST GOT BACK FROM SEEING IT, IT WAS FANTASTIC!!! What a great awesome movie....WOOT!!! I can't wait to see "The Fantastic Four" and Spiderman 3 and hopefully Spiderman 4!!! :)

-Movies can never be like the comics, nor like tv shows..You have to understand that each caters to a different audience. TV shows, comics, and movies are all directed towards different audiences, you can't please them all, and you can't make a movie like the comics...only to a certain point you can...because its a movie not a comic book.

WOW.. saw it last night. VERY NICE... I thought it was MUCH better than the first one. Looking forward to seeing the third one. Nice catch on the Venom foreshadowing thing, whoever said that. I wouldn't have picked it up if you hadn't pointed it out before hand.

The only part I really didn't like about it as much was at the end, the way they did the setup for the Hobgoblin for the next movie. It was much too blatant. Should have been a bit more subtle. Still a very well done movie though.

First off, very good movie. Was super tight for the first hour, lost a little bit, but then ended pretty well.

Regarding Venom, it was only a slight foreshadowing and I'm not sure if they'll pursue that in Spidey 3, which by the way I heard that Toby only signed on for 3 movies.

The Dr. Connors foreshadow was brilliant for all the comic book fans! Again, dunno if they will pursue if only 3 movies are going to be made but still nice.

Just saw it tonight, it was good. The whole part about why Doc Oct built and put on those big arms makes me want to vomit because it was just so ridiculous. That whole scene I didn't like, but other than that I enjoyed the movie.

Now what about these other evil villians that were foreshadowed? I've never read a Spiderman comic book so I know nothing about them. Fill me in here.

Well I see two places the third movie can go:

-return of the green goblin via harry

-emergence of the symbiote venom suit via the astronaut character. This will, no doubt, put MJ in some sort of trouble.

Remember the scientist guy with the one arm who gave Parker grief about doing shitty in his class? Well thats the guy who turns into the lizard person. He does experiments with lizards, in growing limbs, in an effort to grow himself another arm, but of course something goes radically wrong, and he becomes the lizard guy! I could definitly see him in the next movie.! :P

I think the next movie would do well to only include a few of these foreshadowed villains. I say spread them out across more than one sequel.

Well they'd definately spread it out across many movies, they'd make more money that way!!

From what I've heard the stars are signed on for three movies, and have said they won't do more.

Avi Arad in Marvel Studios seems to be willing to make more spiderman movies than the third that is currently planned:

Quote:
Spider-Man 4 or more? "Sure. We wanna go to nine. You're looking at something that started in 1962, became on its own in 63, and thriving. Every time we do it, I think this movie, in my opinion, is better than the first one. I think we get the story. It's not about planning 6, 7, 8. If we all sit around and get stuck, we say we really don't have a story to tell, then we'll stop. Spider-Man and Peter Parker are too valuable just to put them out there. I hope the characters don't age too quickly. I don't think so, they seem pretty young. Again, we shouldn't think that far. But opportunities for material and stories within the Spidey universe, technically you can go on for a long time. We did 65 half-hours of an animated show, and we threw away something like 30 scripts when Fox at the time decided 65 half-hours was good enough."

Btw, here is the very first spiderman comic story, online:

Click on Amazing Fantasy 15 (1962)

I think they have captured the spirit of that comic (and others), quite well in these two movies.

Just got back from Spidey 2 and accept this post as basically a big "Ditto!" of everything positive you've heard about this movie! Tremendous fun and right on for catching the comic's spirit.

Rom, they may have only signed a contract for 3 movies, but they could always sign another contract... or have the characters recast. (think Bruce Wayne, James Bond, Jack Ryan)

I am sure James Earl Jones never dreamed he would be having a part in another Star Wars movie after RotJ. I am sure all his Star Wars contracts ended with that movie, However he is in EpIII thus he signed a new contract.

Tobey Maguire almost got out of doing S2. Fox news was talking about how after Seabiscuit he was not in Spiderman shape, and he was thinking of getting out of the contract. The news went on to say that he is happy he stayed on because he made 17 million with S2, yet if he cancel his contract the S2 team was set to have Kirsten Dunst's real life boyfriend take over as Peter Parker.

Besides, they choose to do no more than three movies for a few reasons: 1) Keep from being typecast, 2) Keep form getting hooked to a shitty series, 3) Demand more money if previous movies were very successful. So far Spiderman looks to be anti-shitty, so I guess the only real reasons are 1 and 3.

I think the really all depends on how great S3 turns out. So far the series is great, but if it gets corrupted like Aliens, Jurassic Park, or Batman; the actors will want out because the brand has been damaged. If the series stays great they may just be posturing for better pay.

I heard about that, and when I heard him talk about it on a talk show he made it seem like it wasn't that bad and that he was never really that hurt...so who knows...had he not done spiderman 2 I would've called him a wuss...theres no hero I know who can't handle back pain. ;)
