The other day my router's Diag light lit up and stayed on.... thus I lost internet access. I tried to reset... no good. So I connected directly to the modem and downloaded the newest firmware.... however the installer could not access the router. So I directed my browser at the router.... no good, nothing to access. I called Tech Support, after failing to reset he pronounced my router dead. So I ask you, what would kill a router? Old age? Power surge? Would a power surge kill my router behind a surge protector, yet not kill the printer and scanner on the same surge protector? Anyway after this post I will replace my old router with a new one. If you guys do not see me in a few days, something went terribly wrong ![]() |

Cyrus, here is my guess... YOur router is protected from power surge at the power end, but not the phone end. Sometimes if there is a storm, your equipment can be damaged by lightning through the phone line. I could be totally wrong, of course. |

Maybe.... I lost an old modem back in 1995 exactly how you explain it: Surge through the phone line. You could see the burnt resisters when you took it out the tower. This go around I have a cable modem, and I learned from my 1995 troubles... the cable has a surge protector protecting it. But those surge protectors are not 100% perfect ![]() |
