arrgh... i dont know what to do after high school - cant decide between archaeological science (geoscience and archaeology) and engineering... i might even take either archaeology or geophysics as a major and the other and a minor - or rather mechanical engineering ?! anyone has a clue what to do ? i have been in contact with several universities for a week now (thats why i wasnt online too much) but i still dont know what to study, where to study and in which combination... is there anybody in avian who has done something in geoscience/physics or archaeology ? or who know somethign about studying a combination of the two ? hmmm.... i am heading out now looking for a room in Aachen in case i finally decide to do for engineering... hope to sse you online tomorrow or the day after... |

Archaeology would be pretty sweet, but from what I understand, it's a lot easier to make money with an engineering degree. It really depends on what's more important to you, and which field you have more of a passion for. If money is more important than your passion, then do the engineering thing. If your passion happens to be engineering, then you're set! ![]() |

What Talon said. I decided to study Chemistry instead of Chemical Engineering after high school and I am sometimes regretting it. I basically have the same skills as an engineer, because I had to take the same math and thermodynamics classes and such at my university, but the piece of paper doesn't say "engineer" so it's not worth as much. |

My little Brother is making very good money with his Electrical Engineering degree. My good friend got an Industrial Technology degree that focused on the electrical side of things. My friends classes were easier than my brothers, yet they know mostly the same stuff.... by brother is better at problem solving and far out math... but if you look at their jobs, it is mostly the same stuff. My brother started out making almost twice as much money as my friend. /warning, the above is about EE and may differ with other fields. I had to switch majors because LSU's EE program was kicking my ass! |

Well I took an Anthropology class my freshman year of college and enjoyed it. I have a couple friends who have gone after Enginering, and neither of them enjoyed their classes. Thats just coming from a 2-3 people so take it with a grain of salt. Its real hard stuff supposedly, but you make some good bank once you graduate. If you're running out of time and need to decide on a school, but haven't decided your major go to a school that has programs in both fields and would be a comfortable school for you. i.e. you have some friends going there, close to home (but not too close ![]() Just my 2 cents coming from a Senior in college. |

The others pale in comparison (Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, etc.) The only other Engineering descipline that makes big money are the Engineering Science people. They are usually the ones socially crippled by their brilliance. |

The first 2 years of engineering are used to weed out some of the riff-raff. After that the clesses get more interesting and specific. same goes with many of the sciences. |

thanks everyone. is EE that big in north america? - in germany it is mechanical engineering and a combination of engineering and business administration that makes the most money. i figured that if i am in for money i go for engineering otherwise if i am in for science and research i go for archaeoogy and geophysics... - i think though that geoscience and archaeology could be more enjoyable - but yet i do have some passion for engineering as well... i guess rom's idea would be the way to go - only that taking classes from each field is a hard thing to do since the german university system is a mess. there are 3 different types of programms to choose from which give you 3 different degrees. and for some reason german universities got a wrong understanding of what baechelor-master studies are about: in germany they force you to specialize very early while you dont get much room for extra classes untill your in a master programm - so you dont really have a major-minor thing. the programm that offers you a broader veriety is called 'magister' it allows you to choose 1 major and 2 minors or 2 majors. the problem with that is that you can only choose classes which are labeled as magister classes - and the magister programm is close to extinction since it is supposed to be replaced with the bachelor master system. besides there are liko no universities that offer engineering in a magister programm... i am propably going to start out with something and get as much different classes into it as possible - and if its not what i thought i would like then i am going to to something else ![]() |
