Anyone played this or heard anything about it?
Looks nice, but what about the gameplay?

I beta'ed it for a month or so and the music was cool, graphics were neat, game play was so so.

It reminded me a bit of Elite in terms of its premise - buying / trading goods as one aspect of the game, but really didn't hold my interest due to the fact that I couldn't figure out any game progression.

I wonder if it would be worth another look now that it's been around for a while.

Warcry have a 14-day trail, so I was just wondering if it was worth giving it a shot. Although I never really like 'being a ship' :P.

LOL...didn't work for ENB that's for sure! The one thing I liked about EVE compared to ENB is that it was a bit of a darker, more of a Blade Runner, kind of feel rather than slick, gamey, almost Starship Troopers kind of feel.

This from a newb FAQ could be a harbinger of gameplay. I felt this way during beta...maybe it hasn't changed.

1. Dont play the game in AFK mode. This game is not designed with this kind of playing style in mind and you should NEVER consider your ship and character safe while being away from your computer.

Then I suggest speeding up things like mining and travel, atleast in empire space. Even with the odd rat, it's hard to stay awake wile mining, and traveling is mindless. Heck, I usually watch TV & mine at the same time. A lot of this game involves "boring" tasks that encourage going AFK or not paying much attention.

Not sure how you would make basic mining it's self more entertaining ... maybe make it sorta a mini-game where you could get some extra ore, might be fun. Traveling in empire would be faster if the jump range on gates was increased.

My tip would be to find some people you enjoy chatting with, so when gameplay slows down a little, you can stay frosty & aware of any dangers that might pop up.

I tried the 14-day trial.

It had some interesting moments, but it didn't appeal long term for me.

Strangest concept was the time based skill learning system. Just click on a skill, and you began learning that skill (and only that skill), regardless of whether you were logged in or not. Want to use that new Missle? Spend server hours waiting to learn the skill. Want to use a basic Cruiser? Spend several days just waiting to learn the skill. This pretty much makes the game an eliteist game since you can never really compete against longer lived players.

Mining was fun for a bit, claiming bounties was fun for a bit. But in the end Mining is the best way to make money, but is not as fun as battle. Joining an Organization can help, but it just reinforces how useless you are, and the only thing preventing your usefullness is time.
