Here's a fantasy racing game that, despite it's simplicity, keeps me interested enough to keep coming back. If anybody needs help with the concept or the rules or general strategy, discuss it here, because I'm a self declared expert. :P

I'm considering starting another driver. I have one that I use for my team with some guys here at work, and I'm doing fairly well. Qualified 2nd for this weeks race (today is qualifying day btw). I'm in group 633 now (the lower the group number, the higher you are ranked).

Tip for the Monaco track:

Set your springs and your engine to 0, and your wing to 20. Believe it or not, that is the optimal setting for this bumpy, windy, slow track.

Brilliant Talon. Shaved almost 4 seconds off my time!

So Talon, how do I do the race planning?

The day of the race you can run a few training rounds, but you have to be careful about watching your driver's fitness. If it goes too low, he'll be exausted pretty quick during the race. Since you're just starting out, your driver probably doesn't have much to work with as it is, so best not to train at all. The race is at 12:00 noon EST.

HAHA !!!

My groups race was today, came in FIRST !!! By almost 5 minutes at Monaco !!!

Rookie wins first race !!!!

Very nice Manti. You'll now find that it's actually pretty hard to win a race. They dump the newbs in with all the inactives, so you're guaranteed points on the first race. (not too burst your bubble or anything). :P

I placed 9th for the Monaco race. Make sure you're car overview is 100% before you start training tomorrow again. ;)

Hmmm, too late for me. I didn't set any pit stops for the race. (I thought I had time still), and I dropped out during the race.

Was looking for some advice on the pit stop strategy from ya Talon.

Yeah, I figured it was only me and one other guy that were actually working on the race this week....

the race is at a wierd time for me, middle of the morning over here... My guy pitted once without me telling him... did I get lucky? Do I need to manually set up pit stops?

Author:  Talon1977 [ Fri Oct 08, 2004 1:57 pm ]
Post subject:

No, you don't necessarily need to plan pit stops. I don't generally speaking. It will pit when it needs to in order to refuel and whatnot. If you dropped out Golga, it's because you had an engine failure or crash. Check the race log and find out.

You CAN however set a pit stop for somewhere around the 50th lap and it is supposed to help, but i've never tried it actually.

Canada track's Optimal settings for chassis, engine, aero = 4, 9, 14. Good luck on the Canada track everyone!

Thanks for the settings Talon, I was kinda close, but saved me almost another second. I've learned my lesson on Fitness so I'm doing a few training runs on Threshold. Now I'm almost out of money so I have to wait a bit.

By the way, what is Fine Tuning?

Author:  Talon1977 [ Sat Oct 09, 2004 5:08 pm ]
Post subject:

fine tuning is extremely important. makes all the difference in the world. to fine tune the three aspects of the car, do training laps targeting those specific areas. once you've fine tuned the car in an area, don't make improvements to that area (aside from changing the top options for each track), unless you plan on having to fine tune all over again. get what i'm sayin'?

Here's the settings as posted above.

I qualified 2nd. Thought for sure I was going to get the pole position this time. ah well. I should finish well enough for some nice points. :D

My Kilter/Fitness is 46%, any recommendation on Driver Settings?

Author:  Talon1977 [ Mon Oct 11, 2004 2:34 pm ]

Track Knowledge seems to be the one that has the biggest affect on times and speed. After that, High Speed is second on my list. Then maybe Pit stops or Bend Driving or Overtaking.

During the first week of the season, I spent every lap training my Kilter, so now I'm at 96%. 8)

Cool, but i meant any advice on:

Readiness to take risks
Overtaking Behaviour
Material Stress
Ambition

oh yeah... sorry. I set it all on Insane for qualifying, but everything on brave for the race.

I misunderstood the race procedure. I thought you could "watch" a race. It's now an hour after "start time" and the computer is chugging through it's calculations.

I should win this race unless I made a major mistake. My lap times were a full second ahead of the next qualfier, and I set my Ambition to Balanced just to make sure I don't tire out on the course.

Good luck race fans!

Yeah, I wish you could "watch" the race. That'd be cool. That's great that your times are good! Anything can happen though. Driving mistakes occur. Engine problems occur. It sucks when that happens. Good luck though!

Finished first by almost 3 minutes. One pit stop, one driving mistake. Wish the log told you a bit more about lap vs. race position. Oh well, on to the Europe course. I had fine tuning up to 40 - 60 - 40 at race time. But I'm guessing I should spend some money on basic improvements now that the race is done.

Got Kilter/Fitness to 52%, which served me more than adequate at Balanced Ambition.

Congrats Golga! I'll check and see where I came in.

EDIT: Came in 2nd. I just spent some money on the Engine and bumped the engineering up to 919 PS! I'm in a much higher group now - #340. The competition is likely to be VERY tough up this high. I can expect a probable loss coming up. ;)

Talon, any insight on settings for the next course?

I think their lap times were like 1:15 or so, not that great, but they hit that EVERY time nearly....

I just didn't have a great run, and I must have gotten banged up a bit, as my car was at 45% after the race, but I finished... so who knows..

Yeah Talon, give us the dirt on the new track !!!!

As soon as I get the settings nailed down for the next one, I'll let you know. You can always work on fine tuning until I get that done tomorrow.

Thats pretty good, I think my best lap in the race was 1:18 flat, but during training I had 1:17s.

I'm sensing some disappointment in this next race.

EDIT: in Race Group #1141 now

Aero=11
Chassis=?

Working on my Kilter... up to 61% now... I get tired way to fast...

I think you're right about the Chassis Golga. That's what I ended up with too. My best lap was running 234 k/h and time of 1:10:19. 8)
