DLd Counterstrike Source today and in the little bit I've been able to play, it appears to be every bit as addicting and fast-paced as I remember it but now it's beautiful as well. The environment is interactive (a CT tried to take shelter from me behind a filing cabinet so I kept hammering it with my AK till it toppeled over then I could get to the little weasel with my pistola  ).

Anyone else back to this classic that's new again?

Unless they figured out a way to stop all cheaters, I doubt I'll get back into it.

Oh they opened that up already? Or was it a free upgrade?

I picked it up via Steam yesterday. Bought the silver version of HL2, meaning I get basically Valve's entire library, all the games they're revamping for the HL2 engine and, of course, HL2 once it's released.

Once I bought it, I was able to select which games I downloaded and once they (well, it actually, only DLd CS: Source) were local, installed and played. I'm so happy to see companies starting to do distribution this way.

Ah I see. I knew people could down load Source early (and maybe even some data from HL2?), but I wasn't sure if it would be activated right away, or even you would have to wait until the offical release date.

It was in open beta (at least beta in some form) recently. Those who were DLing and playing it were likely running the beta.

Just as an anecdotal measure of the popularity of CS: Source...as of last night, there were 897 servers for me to choose from. The game was released yesterday afternoon. ;)

I was an avid CS player for a long time. I was very excited about the CS:Source release. I've not played a game for 6 straight hours since the last time I played CS .. but, I've done it twice already this week with CS:S .. I'm into this big time :D

I want reports on any maps OTHER than dust. I was in the beta but am waiting for HL2.

Downloaded it too this weekend. Also got the Silver version. Seems the best deal.

It's really cool! I would recommended it anyone who liked the original. It's much better.

As far as other maps go, I always loved Office in the old version. In Source it's far superior. The fire fights in the closed hallways are so intense you forget to blink. The flashbangs and smoke grenades are much more realist, seemingly are more useful.

Some of the bad is still there, too many campers and children with their new microphones but it seems no one has cracked it yet.

All in all a dangerously addictive game, and nice for a quick SWG break.

While I hate camping in some situations, in others it's how the game is played. For instance, if I'm a Terrorist I will sit the entire map right up under the hostages. The purpose of the map if for the CT the rescue them .. so, the purpose for me is the "guard" them :) Or, I'll make them follow me around a bit while I hide out and wait to pick some CT off :)

However, I really hate it when at CT just camps out instead of trying to rescue the hostages. To me that is bad camping .. and I agree with you that there is still a bit of that going one.

I'm big into CS:Source now .. you can usually find me on the Shredco server as sugarcrum .. usually in the evenings around 9:00 PM EST .. see yall there :D

Totally agree with you Nasiobo, CTs camping is really boring.

I move a lot from server to server, plus I am not usually on that long at a time, but I'm GodOfGophers if you come across me give me a shout before you headshot me. :)

Wow, just learned tonight that I can no longer move the hostages if I'm a Terrorist .. when did that happen? If it's been a long time then that tells ya how long since I played. hehe, some of my good memories were moving the hostages in different places .. like around windows and such .. it would lead em to me every time :D

T's moving hostages hasn't been possible since... 1.5 I think.

Came across my first hacker last night. Very disappointing. I was hoping that I would take a while for it to happen.

I'm hoping to see more maps soon. CS:Source has been a bit of a let down for me so far.

Don't you worry...they'll be thousands of maps out before you know it!. The game hasn't been really released yet, so give it 1-2 weeks after November 16th! :)

Only a days now!

Depending on if I get HL2 for my B-day or not, I might try getting the silver version from the main site, but do you think that service will still be in place after the game launches?

The silver version looks to have some of the HL2 CE items in it but at a lower price, though I guess it might not be worth it to download it instead of installing from a CD with less of a wait.
