I hate it when I have alot of studying to do, and I have a badass headache....and every little thing pisses me off.....and I'm tired.......and I don't want to study....and so midterms suck.....History is such a pain in the ass sometimes....even though it's my major, hehe.

...expecially when your World Civ 2 teacher heavily influences the class about Africa because she's an African teacher. It also helps that she can't speak correct english....and it also would be great if she would actually teach the class, instead of having us copy down over-head projector sheets...

Yes, let's talk about Africa today, like we did for the past two months, even though the class is supposed to be about World Civilizations, not JUST AFRICA! OMFG!!!$@$(^(@$@.

Did you read about the Nobel Peace Prize winer from Kenya. She fostered peace by advocating reforestation and thereby the retention of arable land. Unlike Sudan and others who now have warlords fighting for scraps of land. BUT she also believes western scientists developed AIDS to kill blacks, and that condoms do not stop the spread of AIDS.

I got passed my midterms just find... they were last week for me... they wore my butt out, but I survived. Can you believe I am a senior and this was the first test crammed midterm week I have ever had. I guess the College of Engineering has always dumped the test one us when they wanted to, and up until now those tests have always fallen spread out and not clumped into one week.

But this week I have the "Memorize" tests, Management and Accounting. I am all for learning those subjects, but these tests are all about how much you can memorize and not how much your really learn, or not how well you can put them into use… so because of the testing methods I find myself less than thrilled to be bothered by these tests. On top of that I am catching a cold. My throat is starting to kill me, and I can’t seem to get enough sleep.

So here I sit, feeling like crap, memorizing all kinds of junk. It would not be half bad if they tested us on how to use the things we are learning… at least my calculator’s text editor will get some use. It has been so long that I almost forgot how to use it.

Yeah, that's the one aspect of college I don't miss...the whole studying thing.

I like LEARNING, and what is what I am here for. But I never felt memorizing crap word for word was any form of real learning. Especially when the stuff will be forgotten 2 days later. And especially when the stuff being memorized is a guys opinion that is no longer shared with the rest of his profession.

Memorize the Periodic Table –Yes
Memorize the laws of math and Physics – Yes
Memorize the laws of supply and demand – Yes
Memorize parts of your country’s constitution -Yes
Memorize a bogus paragraph a 1930’s manager said in a report – No

No offence to any of you guys that are in non scientific fields, but you can really tell a lot about the importance on the subject, importance of the class, and strength of the teacher by then materials you are being tested on. When they result to testing you on things that will not help you advance your knowledge of the subject matter, they are just making you jump through hoops. If they make you jump through hoops, they should not expect to be taken seriously.

-In one class we analyzed destructive forces that act on buildings, then weeks later we start designing buildings to withstand things like earthquakes, and hurricanes.

-In the other class we were told that a satisfied employee is a bad employee :? , then weeks later we are learning that managers must strive to make their employees satisfied  . Sorry, but if this is what the class is about it is just a class full of Bull Shit.

Incorrect. The virus is dissolved in liquid and as long as the condom doesn't leak, the virus will stay inside.

Think about it - a molecule of water is much much smaller, and yet there are things that are waterproof.

Personally I think most "Centers for Higher Learning" are bullshit. They make you take and pay for worthless classes that have nothing to do with the real world. Plus most do very little to prepare a person for getting a good job after school.

This is based on my experiences in college and as a sales and marketing manager for the past 10 years. Please don't take offense at this if you don't feel the same way. It's just my opinion.

College is designed to do one thing, no matter what you major is...

Teach you HOW to think.

Thats it. Its not WHAT you learn, its that you learn how to learn.

Everything else is gravy...

And the belief that AIDS / HIV is an engineered tool developed by the "West" to eradicate life in Africa is a widely held belief in most of the African continent. Not saying it is correct, for it certainly isn't, but thats what alot of people believe.

College is also a sandbox for kids to adjust socially in a manner that is more mature and better prepares them for society as a whole than walking the halls and snapping bra's like in middle school.

Combine that with Manti's comment on trying to teach people how to think as well as what GoG said and that pretty much sums up college.

I didn't learn a damn thing in college that is applicable to my job from a classroom perspective. But, the social aspects combined with some classes where I had to apply some rigorous thought processes and I think I've turned out pretty well...

Wow! I was an English major and now I'm in sales. I love literature and liked a lot of my classes but didn't care for all the hoops that I needed to jump through.

College is also a great place to learn to drink huge amounts of beer and party til you pass out. (Very important life skills if you ask me)

It's a very important life skill to be able to chug a 12oz glass of beer in 3.8 seconds.

hehe... Not for me it wasn't, for obvious reasons. I learned all my mad skills AFTER college which led to a lot of marital problems for a while until I felt that I had mastered the art of partying. :P

I'm sure everyone has their Tequila story too!

The hard part is remembering it.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure they do...which is why if I'm serious about it, I'll probably end up joining the Airforce at some point after school. I'd also need to get laser surgery, as airforce pilots require perfect vision....so we'll see... :P

Yea. Funny now, but not at that time.

A Prairie Fire is Tequila and Tabasco sauce. Why anyone would drink one is beyond me, but being young and stupid I drank several. Of course it wasn't a good idea and I regretted it for a long time afterwards. I don't remember almost anything that happened that night and I couldn't taste anything for days.

I was a big fan of giving out Gorilla Farts which was an equal mixture of 151 and wild turkey.

They were nasty!
