So I postponed downloading Microsoft Service Pack 2, and now I wish I never had installed the damn thing at all!...

It is just me? or is this service pack overly intrusive. I mean, I can't go anywhere without...are you sure?? we are blocking items on this page for you...ok...good? arn't you happy we make your computer f'd...yeah...the security settings are really pissing me off, so it is my new assumption that updating windows is not always a great idea...I hate this freakin upgrade.

Microsoft is now more evil than ever  , it's starting to be grouped in my disdain for AOL category. :x

I am not having any of those problems. Maybe you are setup to receive more warnings. All I get is the thing saying it blocked a popup, and I had those messages before SP2 so it was nothing new.

When you d/l SP2, it automatically reenables the XP firewall, and it sets up all those warnings. Its for technotards who don't know how to set up their computer safely. I've not downloaded it yet 'cause it messes with DivX codecs, and I've not taken the time to update those yet, but I know there is a way you can turn off those notifications, and the XP firewall.

correct, I forget where but you can turn off all those noob warnings. I run behind a router with its own firewall, so I did have to tell SP2 to quit wining about xp firewall being disabled. It was at that time when I went through and disabled all the excess warnings.

oh yippee!, I guess I didn't realize or think about that. I'll try turning off the firewall when I get home and see what happens.

Hopefully my computer will act a bit more "normal", it's about time for some re-format-ation! Just dreading the thought... :?

Amazingly enough, if you don't like SP2, you can actually just uninstall it from add/remove programs in the control panel.

I'm not so sure that is accurate. Critics everywhere are talking about the fact that this is an un-uninstallable SP. It even informs you when you download it that it cannot be uninstalled.

Really? I had a buddy download it in the first couple days it was available, didn't like it, and uninstalled it that very way. I suppose they may have changed things since then, though, with updated downloads. I think he did end up formatting shortly thereafter for a different reason, but I'm pretty sure he said he did uninstall it.

I hope you're right. I know a lot of people who are very unhappy with it.

Personally, I haven't had any problems.

yeah, I just looked, in the add/remove program section, Window's Service Pack 2 is there, and gives the option for removal.

How about with Restore?

That is a good question. I never think of the restore, 'cause I never use it. Viruses like to hang out in your restore files if you get them, and it takes up a lot of harddrive space. So I have that disabled.
