I am an independent, but I support the president and the current administration. I find this nomination to be very very pleasing. By picking a moderate, soft spoken latino and leaving the bitter ashcroft term behind, Bush has made a decision I think we can all support. I really feel like this is a sign that Bush is going to be more moderate in his second term. I don't normally post on politics, but I think if you have doubts about ths administration, this might alleviate some of them. I am just peachy about this nomination. And just before that Colin Powell announced plans to give work vias to the many illegal aliens in our country. Another good move! I am not latino, but I feel for them and I am glad they are getting some respect and representation at high levels. Americans are becoming less "xenophobic." I think left hates the fact that Bush makes a point to place minorities in high ranking positions because they wish they could do it themselves... Post your reactions, I'm sure you can find more about the story easily online. On a negative point, the republicans demonization of the Penn. Senator Arlen Specter because of his comments I find completely unacceptable. Any of you following this story too? |

I am not Xenophobic... and I think immigrants are a great source of pride for this country, we were ALL immigrants once or our forefathers were... I would, however, prefer immigrants came in legally, that is my one request... |

Don't we have a no politics rule around here? I think we've loosened up some recently because of the huge US election issue, but now that that is over I'd rather go back to the "strictness". Yeh we've been doing pretty well will not stepping on peoples toes, but the truth is you really never know what might offend someone even when your just stating your own views. |

Maybe we could have a forum for political issues? That way someone would have to go looking to be offended instead of it being an accident. BTW, I think that happens a lot. There seems to be some very intelligent, thoughtful people around here with some interesting opinions. I for one would enjoy reading and posting in such a forum. |

Yeh we've been doing pretty well will not stepping on peoples toes, but the truth is you really never know what might offend someone even when your just stating your own views. The no politics rule should go out the window, because I think we can all hold a civil conversation. If we can't, well then shame on all of you. It's about time that people learn how to respect each others opinions, thoughts and views. If you can't do it on a message forum, well how do you expect to do it anywhere else? p.s. Create a political forum. Then, people who choose to, can stay completely out of it. ![]() |

I will be one, if the only one, staying away from such discussions. I've learned far from everything in life but one thing I have learned is there is little chance in changing someone's mind about their religion or their politics. But to each their own. |
