Well not much longer, only a few days for us in the US and maybe other parts of the world... but MAN has it been a roller coaster ride for this title and all of its fans. I can't wait. Upgrading my system FINALY (how long had I been mentioning I needed to upgrade my vid card..) just for this game and I know it won't disappoint. /aims crowbar at the devs. Right? Gamespot is doing a "Behind the Games series" which they are posting in parts every so often leading up to the offical launch date I think. Okay read for now while we wait for all of the HL data to be activated. http://www.gamespot.com/features/611288 ... slot_click |

I'm pre-loading it via Steam as we speak. PCGamer, whose opinion I really trust, gave it a 98%. I did 10 minutes worth of research and as far as I can tell, they have never awarded a game anything higher. I thought one of the Sid Meier games received a 96% but I'm not sure. Anyone know anything about that? |

No idea Rocklar, but 98% is pretty dang good regardless. The rest of the Gamespot HL2 "History lesson" is up from the link I posted now if anyone is interested. |

Rocklar, I think you're right. I never remember seeing higher than a 96% I also have been awaiting this game for years. I wonder if it'll give Halo 2's $125 million opening day a run for it's money... |

Pfft...Halo 2, just another knock-off that's just another pale reflection of its inspiration. ![]() |

I'm willing to bet HL2 sales will blow Halo2 sales out of the water. It is going to be interesting how they calulate "sales" because of the stream feature. Maybe... go by how many "activated" accounts they get, EVERYONE no matter how they get the game HAS to get on the net and sign up to activate it, even if they just want to play single player. <<I corrected the link, the other one was to the "teaser" but this one should go to the rest of the artical.>> |

Believe it or not I never played Half-life. Is it a FPS? |

FYI: A few retailers are already selling the game BUT you can't play it until the stream stuff is activated which happens... on the 16th I think. Best Buy I know is selling them right now, Walmart and Target are the others I heard might be but don't know for sure. |

Yes, it's FPS. It's one of those "gotta-try-it" types. I could go on for hours about the cutting-edge physics engine, new AI for bots, excellent storyline and mood and how the first one branched into about a dozen sequels because of it's excellent playability (Couter Strike, etc) ... but it'd just be easier if you googled it. |

Well, I've got my copy seeing right here, nice and installed.. ready to go BUT of course Vivendi wants to keep their little spat going over HL2 so- I wait. Quote: Half-Life 2 For Sale?
November 13, 2004, 4:57 pm ยท valve If you have purchased a copy of Half-Life 2, we are sorry you are still waiting to play. This is not Valve's choice. Vivendi is insisting that the game has not yet been released, and has threatened that Valve would be in violation of its contract if we activate the Half-Life 2 Steam authentication servers at this time. Thanks for your patience and we will update you when we have more news to share |

If you didn't grab it from Besybuy yesterday, then you might be out of luck. At least getting HL2 early. Seems they made a mistake, believing the street date had been changed and now are sending out e-mails to all their stores to pull it back off the shelf. Not that it matters, you can't play HL2 until the offical date, but it did come with Counter Strike: Source which you can play right now. |

Just a few hours longer! Anyone planning on staying up to play HL2 as soon as it is activated tonight (reports are at 12:00 US PST)? Gamespot just gave the game 9.2 and posted a four page review if anyone wants to read it. Slight spoiler alert before you read, the review gives away a few hints of the storyline*)- http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/halflife2/review.html <<Oh and here is the IGN review too, gave it a 9.7 http://pc.ign.com/articles/566/566202p1.html A bit sad there is no HL2 multiplayer, like the HL multiplayer. I like CS:S but I would have liked to try out some of the new weapons from the single player mode I've been reading about online.>> |

Ah yes the 98% they gave to Alpha Centari. But what is funny is a few editors wrote that that score was a mistake and basically the Civilization-nut (I think it was Dan Morris but Im not sure) jacked the score up so high without consent from anyone else including the editor. Kinda funny actually. |

Heh, Alpha Centauri deserved a high score. It's one of the few years old games I still oull out sometimes and play. It's not a game, it's a classic. Anyway, your fancy American magazines give much too high scores anyway... Edward |

Funny, I just played Alpha Centauri for a couple hours again on Sunday... I just can't stay away from it. Damn good game, I'd love if they brought out a newer version (or even a MMORPG!) I wouldn't say it deserved a 98% (too many minor little bugs), but I would have given it a 90%. |

I didnt mean to offend anyone but let me put it this way. By PCG giving AC a 98% it was basically saying this is the best pc game ever. I dont think AC, though it is good, deserves that title, and the other writers and editors didnt think so either. Great game though ![]() HL2 should get to me by Thursday, cant wait! |

I too loved AC but it doesn't deserve best PC game ever. That I leave without a doubt for HL2. Debating if I should pick it up or wait and ask for Christmas. Too many games to play and too much work to do... ![]() |

Nothing after this. Either they all killed themselves from disappointment or everyone is too busy playing HL 2. Edward agrees that AC is not the best PC game ever |

Either they all killed themselves from disappointment or everyone is too busy playing HL 2. Edward agrees that AC is not the best PC game ever I haven't bought Halflife 2, nor will I be buying it anytime soon. 1. I don't have the money to spare right now, since I'm buying WoW. 2. Term papers, and finals coming up in a month will keep me too busy to play video games. Though, you may see me pop into WoW a couple of times. 3. If I don't get a burned copy of the game from friends, then I'll most likely be getting it for Christmas. 4. Those who bought the game, and are currently playing it, please tell us how you like it, first impressions, etc. |

I don't know if people can really share this one. The steam activation thing is on each computer so either your friend would share his account with you (don't think you could play at the same time) or you'd have to get your own anyway. |

Someone will find a way to hack it. You may not be able to play online, but definitely singular player. I have faith in the hackers of the World. ![]() |

The kind of crap like the crap at the end of Half-Life 1? Or like the crap at the end of Empire Strikes Back (knowing that that wasn't the last one)... |
