I've been having some searious problems with intermittent drops in my wireless connection the last few days. I was on with Linksys tech support for about an hour and a half. During that time we tried a couple of things and one item to note was particularly strange

When I went to the configure option on my wireless card, the task would not respond (once in about 5 tries it worked).

At one point my pc rebooted and did something it never has done before...went through a CHKDISK.

Well things didn't look good and I have to assume a file became corrupted in my OS. Safe Mode, Last good configuration, Normal operation all leaves me ends with nothing happening.

I'll have to see if the HD is still good or not, but I may be out of action for a few days if not longer (time is rough these days). In the meantime, I will enjoy the rest...feel free to send ideas or condolences :P

Also, I think the wireless router is gone... 0 for 2. I'm afraid to use anything else tonight...

My linksys wireless router occasionaly will lose connection as well, but not often.

What OS are you using? XP?

Yeah XP. But it has been smooth until the last 4 days. I think the wireless portion of the send is really dead. I can't even see the SSID being broadcast (even with a machine sitting 12 inches away from the router).

But, the PC not being able to boot is my biggest problem right now. I need to recover some files from it before Fdisk/reinstall.

Is there any way to recover the OS (XP PRo)?

I think some sectors on the HD went bad and they had the system DLLs in it. When it boots through Safe Node it lists a whole bunch of Windows/System/*/dlls and stops after agp040.dll. I assume that might be causing the problem or the one after that.

Any ideas?

Sounds like you might have had a power surge...

If you have your XP disk, try to boot from that and do a repair.

Next, try to download all new drivers for your wireless card and install those.

agp040.dll is for your Graphics bus, so if you're still seeing high resolution (when not is safemode), it's probably the one after that.

Good luck!

Could very well be Yak.

As for the system, I don't seem to recall my Administrator password (as I had it set to auto login) and it's not one of my 10 standard logins.

is there any way I can get at the c drive? USB/Serial link it to another PC. would that allow me to read the contents or would it be encrypted?

Do you happen to have a CD burner on a different system?

Wouldnt matter. I have used the tool located here http://ebcd.pcministry.com/ several times to change administrator passwords at work when I didnt know them, it also has several tools to help with problems. Take a look at the site and see if it might have something that might help you. You can either download the program from them and then create a cd or I have a ISO image of the bootable CD at ftp://dash.servegame.com username is avian password is wowavian
