I think some of you might appreciate this so I thought I'd post it. My roomates, some friends, and I are going to host a LotR movie marathon which we've entitled Middle Earth Madness. Today at 11am we're going to watch the entire trilogy (extended editions) straight through. With the extended editions this will take us 11 hours and 10 minutes not counting any breaks. If that wasn't uber-geek enough, I found a recipe for Lembas Bread online and will be making that (leaf covers and all). Oh, and we'll have popcorn too, but if anyone asks its called, Aracorn! ![]() Flame away ![]() |

Hey! Where are our invites? And yeah, that lembas bread might be pushing it too far. Anyone who attempts to learn elvish is beyond salvation and must immediately report to William Shatner (I mean Captain Kirk) ![]() |

When Danyale flew to Arizona to vacation with her parents, I did something like this. I did it with breaks, across the whole week. I watched all 3 extended editions, watched the comentary by the director on all 3 movies, watched the comentary by the cast on all three movies. I could not do the commentary by the art team, one movie was all I could take of them. What can I say, I was board out of my mine with my wife gone. Plus with here home, there was no way I could get away with a marathon like that. I didn't however cook lembas bread. |

I own all three (actually 6 versions) of the series we tried a marathon with just the first two a while back. Our bug mistake was inviting the Girlfriends along. They made it through the first one but I dont even think we started Two Towers. Sounds like a blast! Have fun. |

Hey, Arindel - think you could swing an entire Saturday for something like this (yes, it would likely include lembas bread)? I've been trying to put this together for a while but I pretty much have to wait until my wife is out of town for a weekend. As requested above, I'd sure like to see a successful recipe! Also, if anyone has a recipe for some kind of ale or grog that does not require brewing or fermentation, I'd like to hear about it (I know it won't actually be ale or grow w/o the fermentation, but I don't have the hardware to do that...even though I live in the South ![]() |

I think the lembas bread recipe would work if you add more milk make them fairly thin...and flip em half way through cooking to keep an even light browning color they cook fast so like 6 minutes would be enough. Also as good as the cinnamen flavor is I'd stick with simple lemon, think it adds a bit more authenticity to it. |

Rocklar, Recipe for grog: 1 or 2 parts water to 1 part rum. Mix, store in wooden barrel for a couple months. Drink, carefully. Throw out, find something better like Pepsi. |

Well ME Madness was a success! With small breaks inbetween movies and DVD changes it took about 12 and a half hours. The Lembas bread actually came out pretty good. Its very similar to scones. I followed the recipe exactly and I added a little dollop of honey to the dough. If I made it again I wouldn't change a thing, except I think sliced almonds would be killer if added. Also, I bought a head of cabbage and used that for the Mallorn leaves to wrap up the bread (just for ubergeek presentation). We made some Deadly Marsh punch too which was limeade and orange juice concentrate, sprite, southern comfort, and everclear (to make it deadly ![]() Here is the link to the recipe I used. http://entropyhouse.com/penwiper/costumes/lembas.html Like I said I added a dollop of honey, and I would think sliced almonds would be bitching. The dough is a bit sticky and it makes them hard to peel off the counter so try laying some flour on the counter before you roll it out. I wouldn't say flipping them is necessary, but you can try it. Take them out immediately after they start to brown so they dont get too crispy. |

I did the same thing the other day. Actually, it was one every day for three days, because my girlfriend wasn't being very cooperative. I'm definately going to have to wait like ten years before I watch them again. You should read this. |
