I never really found a practical kvm to free me from the sounds 'O 8 fans, so I think I'm going to kill my CPU and GPU fans and go with water cooling. The Building Services Engineer in me says I must bow its greater wisdom and use a heat pump instead of those pesky fans.

Just make sure it's all properly sealed or it could get rather expensive. But otherwise, I do know of a couple of people who have water-cooled PCs and I believe that they swear by the system.

In fact I even heard of someone using a fridge coolant system. I think they managed to get some serious overclocking after that!

My CPU is running for to hot for my tastes right now and the thought of adding another fan is just to much for me. My Comp already is far to loud. I doubt I can go for this system but I might start looking at a water cooling system or maybe even an ultra-cool (pun) heat sink.

what system is that Obo? Any links? Edit: Hey why don't I just click on the Here text...idiot.

Go with liquid nitrogen! (I have serveral friends who have done this)

What are they running, high performance servers?

Liquid nitrogen is not quite as common or cheap as water, unless you can get it from the campus labs for free

I read through the .pdf and couldn't really tell for sure whether a single Reserator 1 could support more than one set of CPU and GPU blocks. Any one know the block capacity of a single Reserator 1?

soooo, Ummmm. Im seriously thinking of taking the plunge - literally.

Im comp is over heating and the thought of adding another fan is just killing me. My computer is annoyingly loud as it is. Every since Obo first posted this it has been on my mind. I would also get the GPU add-on and go all the way with this.

I don't over clock or anything wierd so I just need a well made, quite solution...ok that and it is just damned cool!

If I do get it I will upgrade my CPU while Im at it. Im at 2.2 now so a nice upgrade is possible. Just need to see what my Mobo can handle.

Avoid tornado fans...after all the trouble and expense I went through with the xp90 / tornado install..i'm not seeing much if any diff in temps. I didn't re-apply any of the thermal compound (thought there was enough residual on the cpu and the sink) so that could be my problem, but DAMN that fan is loud as crap.

I keep coming back to it and it I decide to not go with the water cooling I will get this heatsink for my new processor. Only thing to consider is that is is 4.3inchs in around.

Every review Ive ready says this thing is very quite and cools much much better than any other heatsink.

I have that Zalman. I think my cpu is at about 34 deg C.

dbakke, you didn't reapply the thermal compound?
If I remove the heatsink for whatever reason, I will always clean off what's there and reapply. You want a thin a layer as possible but with complete coverage. I wouldn't risk just using what was already there.

Sigh...I figured as much...if you all don't see me for another few days...you'll know what happened.

Also, it doesn't look like that Zalman works for a socket 939...only a 940.

They're not compatible correct? Mobo is AV8.

well I couldnt go for the full Water Cooling System so I went with this instead.
Im going for a balance of cool and quite. I dont overclock or anything wierd so quite was my primary goal.

On top of this I also got 1gig DDR400 Dual Channel Ram and an Nostromo n52 speed pad. /mmmm gaming gadgets

well I have it all installed.
TheZalman HSF was a snap to install. If you have an AMD MoBo you need to remove your board and install a holder plate under, thankfully mine is Intel and took about 3 minutes to install.

The Zalman is very quite and is so far doing a great job. I went from Idle CPU temp of 55c to 41c. After about 30 minutes ingame the CPU heat went up to 55c but that is down from nearly 70-75c with my old HSF.

The Zalman case fan is also very quite much quiter than my cheapo one I had in there. It seems to be moving air around at a nice rate.

The Arctic Cooling Silencer also seems to be running well. I had some install issues but just plugged the 2 pin direct into the 3 pin slot and all seems to be well. The unit takes 2 PCI Slots, one for the unit and one for the speed toggle and air vent.
You can actually feel hot air being blown out the vent. Imagine all that hot was used to be going into my case.


So I think this is an excellent combo so far. Ill know more on my first big gaming session on a hot day but if my idle temps are already much lower Im sure my high load temps wont get to out of control.

I think my next thing is going to be a silent PSU. That is the only fan that is not quite. My goal is to run as quite as possible. My PSU is a cheapy I picked up a while ago and I found a silent fan PSU for about 40 bucks so I may do that later on.
But man o man would I love that water cooling system

btw i got the zalmann...installed without too much fuss, at least no bent cpu pins

didn't do much for cooling though...i think i need a more fundamental case, and case fan upgrade.

at rest, best i can do is 47C...with successive over clocks getting to the low 60's which ultimately freezes me up.

i don't think it helps that the front and 2 rear case fans are hard wired into the power supply connectors so i can't adjust the fan speed. I could replace those as well i guess, but I'm tinkered out for a while.

also, i can't seem to get my zalmann to go above 1740 rpm's, is that normal? If not, how can i change it? I 've got the adjuster turned all the way up and i didn't notice any settings other than setting the lowest rpm speed. I've also got the voltage up to 12v.

I'd have to turn mine on to se what it's speed is like, but that looks normal. Plug the fan directly into the mobo as there might still be some resistance with the adjuster at max.
Since the fan is bigger, it doesn't need to run as fast.

Even though the cooling performance isn't up to par with some of the others, this Asus CPU-cooler just looks ballsy:

Just checked mine and the CPU fan is running at 2205 rpm at a temp of 38 degC.
