OK, I'm curious what you all have in mind as far as professional/career goals. I'm sure this will be interesting, and it will tell us all a lot more about our fellow Avians. Anything goes, but be serious about it. If you want to be president of the United States , then go ahead and put that, but I'd be more interested in seeing the plan for how you intend to achieve that than by you just saying "I'm going to be president". I'll start... Current Profession: I'm currently a Software Engineer for a small company outside of Atlanta, GA. We make quality assurance software for Health Insurance companies. I've been here for 2 years, ever since I graduated from the University of Michigan w/ a bachelor's in Comp. Science Engineering. Goals: I am starting an evening MBA (Master's in Business Administration) program at the University of Georgia in the Fall. I want to learn how to run a business and manage people. I enjoy programming but don't see myself doing it forever. I do, however, think that my job will always be technically related. I ultimately would like to be running my own software company, or be an executive of another software company. This MBA program will tell me a lot about myself and if I have what it takes to do this. I don't have that "big idea" for my own company, but I've got time for that. I envision myself managing a large group of programmers and making key decisions vital to the success of a company. How I get there is yet undecided, but I know this degree will get me a lot closer... |

Current Profession: College Student, with a major in History, and a minor in Political Science. Goals: Get involved in some law enforcement agency. Something on a higher level other than a cop. Perhaps Swat, a Counter-terrorism Unit, perhaps the Military, airforce or Navy. Become a governor, or mayor, or senator later in my life. Go up in space some day, perhaps make a career out of it. I had wanted to fly planes, and go into space, so perhaps I'll do the airforce, and get into Nasa some way.. I haven't looked into it much yet, so perhaps when I get close to graduating I will more. Right now, I'm leaning more towards the Navy/Navy Seal/Swat/Counter Terrorism Unit, though it would be nice to go up in space. If I could somehow do a job that has law enforcement, politics, and space all into one, then that would be cool. Being someone like Jack O'Neil on the scifi TV series Stargate SG-1 would be a dream come true. Well anyway, those are my thoughts. |

Former Profession: Project Administrator for Environmental Company focused on Hazarders Material handling, and disposing. Majority of my experience is in the industrial side of the business. College Attempt #1: When I was doing environmental work I felt that I was lagging behind the technology curve. I wanted to be involved with cutting edge stuff therefore when I went to college at LSU I wanted to be an electrical engineer focusing on the computer engineering specialization. I liked Electronics, Digital Logic, and Programming but I Absolutely HATED Circuits. I got 60% through the curriculum and was more interested in putting a bullet through my head than deal with any more circuits related class. College Attempt #2: Worried that I had already wasted enough time in college, I wanted to pick an area I was interested in and comfortable in. Engineering had ruined my GPA so IT was out of the question, the College of Business Administration requires a 3.0 GPA and the only way I could get that was make As on 90% of my remaining classes. With my IT chances shot down I looked into Construction Management being offered by LSU’s College on Engineering. What I discovered was much of what I had experienced before college could be applied in Construction Management. The curriculum was a mix of Engineering, Management, and Enterprise. I liked what I did in the past, This curriculum would be formal training in the exact same area. The CM program is great, we are the second largest CM college in the US, most of my professors are real industry professionals and I can not express how much more professional the curriculum feels compared to electrical engineering. Goals: I should graduate this December. I currently have a job offer with an industrial pump company in Houston TX. The owners of the company were the CFO and Project Manager whom I worked for in the past. They want me probably more than I want them. In many respects they will give me anything tangible that I want… but I am still cautious. I worry that the education I seek after college can not be provided by a small firm. I realize the small company can give me opportunities that I have never dreamed of, yet at the same time I realize that I can only learn from those that have more to offer than I currently possess. I worry that I will hit my plateau sooner with the small guys. Therefore I am keeping my eyes open for openings in some on the industrial contractors here in the gulf south. In the meantime I am interviewing for a part time industrial estimating position for one of the larger contractors based here in Baton Rouge. It is my wish to get inside information on this company so that I can better decide if I want to make a career with them or keep looking elsewhere. |

When I grow up, I hope my laziness will leave me because it prevents me from developping how I expect my future to be :x |

Currently: I'm studying an MEng (Masters in Engineering) in Aerospace Engineering at the University of Surrey. Goals: I graduate in December, hopefully with distintion. After that I'll either work or take a holiday for six months and then either continue to work or start a PhD next september. Long Term Goals: I plan to get into the Aerospace industry in general. I hope to work on the development of a new supersonic comercial aircraft and from there, two-stage-to-orbit and then single-stage-to-orbit fully reusable spacecraft. These will be a commercial fleet, and the commercialisation of space travel in general will drive down development costs. Long Long Term Goals: By the time I retire, I intend to own or be on the board of directors of a large commercial spacecraft design (and possibly operations) company. I will have either built or be significantly in the process of building a massive spacestation (a cylinder 1km dia and 2km long) that spins to create artificial gravity. Yes I am serious! And this is what I was refering to as ambitious on the other thread! |

Currently: I'm an unemployed (again) CAD Drafter. The jobs I tend to get are with small companies who either go nowhere or fold. Future: I'm going to hit the Lotto and retire to a small island in the Bahamas that I own. I am going to rule the populace with an iron fist and force them to bend to my will. They will worship me as their god. Either that, or I'll just continue doing what I'm already doing. I haven't made up my mind yet. |

Current: I'm a software architect for the top consulting firm in the world. After spending 5 years in the military and making my current company a ton of money, I'm getting a bit tired of the whole shabang. I finish my Masters in Information Assurance (hacking) in May. Goal: I'm putting my wife through vet school, so that when she's done in 4 years, I can go take all these computer skillz and stored up billions and do something worthwhile... like making the next Toy Story type movie or a great & revolutionary computer game. In 20-or-so years, I plan to have my work on secure extraplanatary internets and distributed nano smart sensor motes working around Mars and the Moon. I've also though quite seriously about becoming the Webmaster General for the military, but am thinking that would not be interesting enough to keep me engaged. |

Currently: Unemployed. Yup, still looking for a job. Two month since I quitted my last job. Future: First of all getting a job. Then to Denmark or U.S. trying to become a soldier. If not. The university that my parents want me to attend. |

Current: Im at home raising mine and Dozers 8 months old daughter. I have some education within healtcare and education, but 5 years ago I was in a crash and got a whiplash, and most of it is now to tiring for me to do. And of course I wish for jobs I never will be able to get, cause there's simply none available, and to many waiting for the jobs to be open... Goals: I want to get a job as an interior-designer in a smaller firm, where I can have customers I can spend some time giving service to. Not one of the big, boring chain stores where I only would set up an exhibition once in a while... Or maybe an advertisment-constructer. ![]() Getting lots of money, making people spend their's... |

Designed in house by employees and myself, the projects are all one of a kind creations. Hoping this line takes off in addition to our current business. |

Currently: I just graduated from East Carolina with a BS in Hospitality Management so right now I'm working as a waiter at a local steakhouse while I hunt for a "real" job in Chicago. Goals: First, get some kind of lodging or food service management position in Chicago. From there I want to make my way up the ladder. Eventually I may want to open my own place. Maybe an upper-class pizzeria and bar. Im going to cross that bridge when I get there, but for the mean time I'm just interested in management. |

Alright, I give in. I'll post it. Current: I'm currently a Mortgage Broker in South Carolina. I moved here from a little suburban town in northern Ohio to attend college here about 8 years ago. I got married, and ended up staying for the weather. ![]() Future: As soon as I have enough equity in my house I currently live in, I'm going to sell it and move out of town. I plan on buying up at least 7-10 acres and building a good sized house out in the country. Somewhere with a river or decent sized stream would be nice. I'll probably stay in the same line of work until I retire, which hopefully will come early. I hope to be a little more involved in local politics, and perhaps even at the State level. If I could change careers at this point and get paid for designing computer games, I'd jump at the opportunity. I just don't have any experience that counts for what companies want. |

Me too...here's the skinny - Current: I'm currently a Manager at BearingPoint. I've lived in the DC / Maryland Metro area on and off for the last 10 years -save for when I worked at a different company and was implementing PSFT for an insurance company so I moved into my corporate apartment to save more money and not pay rent for a place I visited 5-6 days a month. This has included a stint living in Annapolis and Baltimore...but am now in Silver Spring. The real estate market here has been kind to me. Future: Recently married, much depends on our parents and whether or not they stay in the area. Kids will be coming in the next few years, but if I had to hazard a guess I won't be changing careers (at least 180 degree change) but may move to the Carolinas. You never know what the future will bring...unless you go out and grab an opportunity in the present. |

Current : I am currently a career student (9 years already), working on a BA in Music. I work at the county school office doing computer repair and maintainance for the district offices and computers that local school techs can't deal with. (17,000 computers in the district total). I have my super little boy as well, will be 3 on the 19th.' Future : I hope to do whatever I can find in the technology field that will pay me enough to stop living check to check. And hopefully find some extra time to continue being musically inclined, oh, and more moolah should translate to more money for game time! |

Current: Doing my PhD in Polymer Chemistry at Georgia Tech. Had to switch research groups last year, so it might take a while. Don't ask. ![]() Plans/Goals: 1. Never accumulate debt, unless it's for a house ![]() 2. Get enough experience in the field to be able to start a small company. If I have a brilliant idea, a production start-up, if I can just sell experience, consulting. I might have to start learning Chinese here ![]() Dreams: 1. Write a sci-fi book about two boys from an advanced space-faring civilization landing on a planet with a medieval technology sort of population, where they are treated as magicians for their science skillz. 2. I would love to help develop a game. I have two ideas - one would be a Viking or Roman game, kinda lika America's army where you'd have to practice skills like archery, sling-shot, holding the line etc. Then as you move up the ranks of decurion, centurion and so on, commanding the troops becomes more and more important and not the basic skills. The other game I would like to play/design would be basically a Sid Meiers Pirates multiplayer game with much better sailing simulation and adjustable sailing physics and cannon fire physics. |
