Two incidents, unrelated except for the fact that they occurred within days of each other, and both were courthouse shootings. Read both articles, and you tell me, what's the difference?

The difference is the opinions these two media are trying to advocate by reporting two very similar incidents.

If you ask me, both could be a lot more informative and contain less propaganda.

I'll be the devil's advocate here and say that in the case where the citizen did not have a gun, she survived and mentally overpowered the criminal. In the case where the citizen had a gun, he died.

I will say this, though - gun control does not make sense in USA, because so many people already have them. The crooks won't give them up. In Europe, things are a little different, guns are a bit harder to come by for everybody, including the crooks.

How come people never shoot them in the head? DON'T AIM FOR THE BLOODY CHEST! SHOOT THE HEAD! gese..... why is this concept so hard? Hearing stuff like this pisses me off beyond belief.

Is it really that hard of a concept to aim and shoot a persons head?

I can understand people not doing it in the movies, but seriously, com on folks......you see a bad guy, aim and shoot at his head...my word....and if your aim is that bad that you can't aim for the head, then you shouldn't be shooting in the first place.

Is the head too hard to hit? Sure, if you're one on one, really close to a target, you'll probably aim for chest, but the guy in the article had enough distance between him to aim for the head....

Anybody agree with me, or am I totally missing something here?...maybe I just read it wrong....I just don't think it's that hard to get a headshot, or even a neck shot....though I'm not a cop, nor am I in the military, so perhaps it is hard to get a headshot...

Locke.. have you ever fired a handgun? Just curious. At any rate, in a no-pressure situation like range shooting, it's easy enough to hit a head-sized target at oh, say... 20 yards or so, if your a decent shot. Outside that, depending on the length of the barrel, accuracy of the gun, and so on, you might as well be shooting with your eyes closed. And that's a no-pressure range situation without adrenaline rushing through you like a freight train. I'm only speaking from experience here, and maybe I'm just a poor shot. But in generel, handguns are not as easy to hit something at 20+ yards as most people think.

It's very hard to hit someone in the head. In the heat of the moment, you automatically aim for the largest target of the body.

When you do hit someone's head, it makes you want to vomit as soon as you realize what you've done.

About 5 years ago I did a very stressful job in Jacksonville Florida. The Project Manager was a retired marine, and one of the things he did back when he was in the service was train marksmanship. Anyway he would bring me and some of the other bigwigs from the Army Corps of Engineers (our client) to a shooting range to blow off some steam.

It is so much harder to shoot than Hollywood makes it seem. Back then my eyesight was so much better than what it is today, and even then I had a hell of a time. If I could lie down, or brace myself up against a wall I could do very well. But when I was standing with nothing to brace myself on I had a very hard time saying on target. I was even worse when I was moving or the target was moving.

You don’t realize how hard it is to keep your hand from moving. My PM said that when he trained guys he told them not to fight the natural movement in your arm. He said your arm does a natural figure 8 when you try to extend it holding a gun… don’t fight it, just pull the trigger when you are in the middle. That improved my accuracy tremendously… but it was still harder than you would think.

The whole shooting thing ended up being very fun. It was very cool because the people we brought from the Corps had guns everyone else at the range wanted to try out. It was weird, all these men trading guns like kids trade baseball cards. I got to shoot so many guns that I cant even begin to remember all the ones I tried out.

heh.. you should all the trading going on at gun shows if you that was fun. :) But yeah, shooting is a good way to blow off steam, and it's a good way to discipline the body. If you're into that sort of thing.
