One of the things I like about my Job (Stage Hand, Production Manager) is that I get to see and do a lot of really cool things.

Today I am working at the MCA (Museum of Contemporary Art). They have a really nice theatre that I work in quite often. Today there is a Jazz Music thing going on. the show isn't until 7pm tonight but I got here at noon so that the artists can come in and practice at get to know the room.

It's an interesting mix of young and old players and it really is amazing how music, and maybe Jazz in particular, is a student teacher art. There was this really old guy, kinda talks in that scratchy been-in-to-many-smoky bars kinda voice. His hands shake and he walks slow but then he sat down at the piano and played this amazing music. No audience just kinda tooling around. As soon as his hands leave the keys of the piano they shake really bad, but get them near the keyboard and they are still as a Doctors.

There are a few younger guys around and pretty much everyone had stopped working and was listening to this guy. I think he is famous but Im not allowed to really ask 'Who are you' kinda questions. Anyway, the younger guys have taken a seat at the piano and the older guy will, without talking, move their hands around and then talk about moving around the music and such and not getting stuck on Five and Sevens and Nines (music speak I guess).

Im not a music guy so I dont know the lingo but it was one of those things where you stop and really pay attention to what is being said becuase you know the knowledge that is being passed on right at that monent is knowledge that was learned not from a degree but from 50+ years of the hard way.

All day there has been things like that going on. Thought it was cool and figured I would share it.

It must be a Jazz/Blues time of the year.

Everyone I run into here in Baton Rouge has been going to this or that Jazz related event in New Orleans. Must be some kind of Multi weekend festivities because it seems like each weekend there is something new going on. Even Danyale's family from Houston went to a similar event over there.

Cyrus: in Louisians and clueless as to what is going on around him

Ahh, gotta love the old Jazz Guys, they are pretty fun to hang around. Actually being a music man myself, I understand what you mean by the 5, 7, and 9's.( It's related to chords mostly in case anyone wonders).

Nice to hear others appreciate the subtle sounds of the jazz world... 8)

Don't quite go for Jazz myself, I'm more of a bluesy rock sort of person. (typical music I listen to: Eric Clapton, Ray Charles)

Some smooth jazz is nice if I'm in the right mood though.

Funny, I was just there a few hours ago. :)

And in 15 minutes I'm going to the Cubs game to see Greg Maddux show his stuff.
