Post subject: | Need Advice on ISP |
I recently moved to a house and am trying to decide which service i should go with... digital cable or DSL. One problem is that I don't currently have a phone line, and i'd have to get one if i want DSL. I don't feel that I need one b/c I use my cell phone. DSL is cheaper, but more expensive when i add the phone line. Also, the DSL option i'm looking at offers 1.5 Mbps, vs. 4Mbps for the digital cable. Is 1.5 Mbps too slow for online gaming? The only thing i've ever really had is Digital Cable... If i went with the DSL would I notice the difference in internet speed in online games, or is 1.5M plenty and the bottleneck is at the server end (i.e. Blizzard can't respond that fast anyhow so it doesn't matter whether you have 1.5 or 4Mbps)? Recommendations? Thanks. |

Gaming usually relies on your upload speed. do you have the upload speeds? |

Well, my DSL runs with download of .5Mbps and upload of .25Mbps. The only problems I've ever had with internet gaming has been due to a lack of RAM on my machine and so not being able to keep up with the graphics. So I think 1.5Mbps would do fine! |

Anything above dial-up is more than you need for online gaming, the only thing making a difference is the latency, which can vary between different ISPs, shouldn't be much of a difference though. |
