IE is displaying only squares in my upper and lower blue bars instead of a site address now and I can't get it to work right for whatever reason. I did a virus scan and removed 60 some odd viruses, mostly adware but still no luck. Is it something to do with the language it is displaying in? Any help would be appreciated.

This might help:

Don't use IE. It might be the worst piece of crap software ever produced.

Download Firefox. It's better on virtually every level.
http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/

Good luck.

I took a screenshot but I don't actually know in which file that shot resides. I tried updating to no avail.

The squares appears in place of each letter in the name that is usually posted in the upper and lower blue bars. It looks like when you try to display chinese characters but don't have the language pack actually loaded into your system.

Yeah, Firefox is great for many things. I use it at home alot. The plugins are wonderful and allow all kinds of coolness.

Though, it's really hard to use with a VPN or when your company's internal sites only allow IE browsers and don't support Netscpae/Firefox flavors of javascript. :( I also get weird 120 second timeouts when using Firefox at times... must be from a bad DNS connection attempt or something weird.

IE at and for work, FF at home.

You found 60 viruses, but did you scan for spyware, browser hijackers or other malware?

To be honest I only scanned for whatever Norton Ant-Virus System scan scans for. It gets viruses and adware for sure not so sure about the others. Almost all of the aforementioned "viruses" were in fact adware. Since they are on my computer without my knowledge and are not desired I call them viruses.

Can you suggest software to scan for the other stuff?

Also perhaps it would help to know that is only affecting IE. The boxes on the bottom blue bar correctly identify the windows that are open and are not IE windows. Right now I have 3 windows open. 2 are not IE programs running, only the window identifying having the Avian Site running is borked.

This is so weird. When I cycle the IE window between full and windowed modes the avian name (or any other website I am using at the time) momentarily reappears in place of the squares. The squares come back when the process is complete. It is a flash of being right with a return to borked.

For starters use Ad-Aware, Spybot and SpywareBlaster and see what you come up with.

I will try those. For now I loaded Mozilla. Except for it displaying now displaying the correct address in the upper left corner and on the bottom in the window description I am not noticing all that much difference.

I have noticed that firefox seems to be slower. I am using IE for this site to speed page changes. The difference is noticeable.

Probably due to something along the lines of IE being well integrated with Windows and Firefox not.

Is it possible that that is a cache thing? Does that make sense?

Nah, it's that IE right now has a better pre-rendering system that starts building the page that you see before getting all of the HTML from the server. Firefox has started working on one, but it isn't yet as robust as the IE one.

Also, IE does some pre-IP fetching tricks and some cool caching abilities, so any pages that have been visited before have alot of their rendering info saved.

Firefox is working to catch up, though.
