Post subject:  Game preview/ review sites

I am looking for some good game preview/ review sites to check out some new and upcoming games (all platforms). I currently frequent gamespy.com and gamespot.com but I know there are others out there to find.

Anyone know a good one?

I've been looking more and more to IGN. I hate their layouts, but they seem a little bit better than gamespot, where I've had a subscription for a couple of years. I'm thinking of dumping it and going with IGN.

I like Gamespot more than Gamespy/IGN, but in every case, you have to take into account the person reviewing, and if need be, a grain of salt with the review itself.

IdleThumbs.net is a fun one, though it's not always the case that they have such instant up-to-the-minute coverage; they're more burtally honest comentary there, and they don't bother with "scoring" games - they just give you the nitty gritty.

I caught a flicker in my motion detecting view just as a particularly stealthy spy pulled Sam Fisher's "Grab Character" move on me. From my perspective there was some blurring of the screen and a message informing me that 'militaryfanatasistTodd' had got me in a headlock. So I waited for the inevitable crack as my character's neck was broken sending me to the spawn point but it didn't come. Instead he whispered in my ear "One false move and I'll break your neck". Now, frankly, there's no need for that... I mean literally, it has no consequence in the game. The only conclusion I can draw is that the perpetrator was 'getting into it' a bit too much. The last thing I want on a Saturday morning is some spotty adolescent with a Sam Fisher fixation rubbing his virtual erection in the small of my back. I felt soiled and had to go and have a shower.

oh man I love Idlethumbs great site Orbital

Oh and good cartoon Obo... Like when BF2 came out and Gamespot had exclusive demo distribution... granted its a great game but still...Your not getting a bad review after that

Not exactly pure review sites, but I also check http://www.shacknews.com/ and http://www.mmorpg.com

I tend not to read review sites. I do however have a long-running subscription with the UK PCGamer Mag. That generally tells me all I need to know. They're not against giving a game a, deserving, bad review even if they have an exclusive on it. They're generally quite frank and will give general impressions of gameplay as well as the particulars of what's good and what's bad. It's also possible to get it almost anywhere in the world (just make sure you get the UK version as it's much better than the US version (or so I'm told)) only trouble is that games are reviewed based on UK release dates.

Old reviews can be read at their website. Though without the funky screenshots.
