Found a game today surfing around called The Last Knights. Looks like a good time waster to replace Yahoo Racing Manager and KoL.

If you sign up, use this link, I'll get a small XP bonus from your successes!

I can give you some tips (from what I've garnered so far)

By the way, I'm in the Japan region if you want to join my zone. I'm signed up as Golga.

EDIT: I don't know if it gives me a message if you join, so post your name here if you do.

Done but Japan over the limit of members so I joined China which had open slots for 38 players.

Arrrgghh, now you must die!! hehe

As for your other questions

1. Don't worry about joining player armies until you raise your rank to 3rd Lt. (You can't until then anyways)
2. You may have to go to a castle in another town to find troops to buy.

Alright, I'm in. Japan, city of Wladiwostock. I am corporal jaddboy.

Still learning but I like the sense of humor in the game. The unit descriptions are pretty funny.

Whoa, Japan is going on quite a ride today. We lost our main island and went on a romp of Asia and into Europe. Then we got smacked in Europe and have retreated to Asia again.

You need to be 3rd Lt. rank to join armies. My suggestion is to try and get Musketeers and Horse Archers (or similar units) while you train on the Market, Woods and Beach. The ranged will let you win while sustaining less damage, and therefore downtime.

I think China is about gone. Japan already is gone. What armies are you joining next?

When Japan got smoked I joined China.......so as of this moment I'm still around. But China is limping, and without some allied support will be gone soon too. I'm 2nd Lt. now, but advancement seems unlikely at this point.

China got wiped off the map. I've joined the French. Could make 1st Lt. today. French seem to have some momentum.

Seems the French States != French. I should look closer next time.

I like the way the game moves pretty fast, and you get a chance to really affect the outcomes.

This is Age 4 I think. I have only been watching for a couple days now, but it appears they reset the game periodically when victory is acheived.

The last age lasted about a month, so there will be a new age perhaps in the next few weeks. We should all practice and test configuration of troops then all join the same side on the next age.

Golga, did you get killed? You no longer show up in searches.

I'm a Lt. with France at the moment. Been trying some border attacks against enemy armies. (PvP) So far I'm 2-0.

I'm struggling a bit to keep a full army. I'm low on gold (200-300), so I can't keep a full army taking me to -50 income for too long.

I've lost quite a few good units over the last day, but its all good.

I see:

tobiasds (2 Lt. with French States)
jaddboy (Master Sgt. with France)
Aubai (3 Lt. with French States)

anyone else playing?

By the way, good idea for the next age tobiasds, just got to be careful of the population limiter.

Yeh We will have to pick an unpopular Nation or just try to make sure we are all on line at about the same time to sign up.

I made full Lieutenant and now I am waiting to join the online army (in a taxi army at the moment). I don't stay online very much and that aspect of the game seems like it would be a little boring but I do want to try it. With half hour turns it seems like too much waiting and not enough stuff going on seeing how you can't really risk doing much in between or you could weaken your group too much.

If the turns were shorter than 30 mins I'd have a hard time leaving the game. I like the fact that when I get hurt too much, it'll take me 1.5 hours to get back to health. That way I can get back to work!

I got plastered in PvP when I hit Captain, I did my third challenge and got walloped. Oh well, live and learn.

You're quite interested in Denmark aren't you?

Your signature also talk a little about Denmark. First World War, the first ww1 fleet battle just west of Denmark.

I saw you made Major. Way to go, I just got to Major too. It's tough to train up though when your country is under siege.

France seems to be holding on for the moment. But when I last checked, we were the weakest remaining nation.

You only have have to worry about training until you hit the rank of 3rd Lt. Then you can join larger armies and fight in PvP.

Here are a couple links to help you.

This list shows(at least an attempt to show) the relative difficulty of the encounters. My advice is to do the easiest encounter possible as many times as possible.

There is also a small Wiki that summarizesa bit of info from the FAQs.

Best bet is to read the boards there.

I believe you can pvp at any level but there of course must me an enemy on the border of the country you are in. Even corporals show up on this list. You can only pvp your level or higher.

I'm going to list some random tips I've determined. Feel free to refute them if you think otherwise.

1. Cavalry seems not to be favoured. It appears easy to have Pikeman both as core Infantry and as Cavalry killers.
2. Ranged seems to be very useful. Both infantry ranged (Musketeers, etc.) and Artillery ranged (Cannons, Archers). (The only difference in these two are the combat phases in which they attack.
3. Healers are very useful when you've got 15+ units in your army. If you can, spend the extra to get regular or even advanced healers since they will die MUCH less easily. having a 25 unit army with 4-5 healers isn't a bad idea.
4. One drummer after having about 10-12 units is a good idea. The drummer increases the effective size of your army for each rank. THis is used when determining combat actions during a fight.

For High Command (HC)

1. Communication is vital.....to a certain extent.
2. Tell people when training is a bad idea.
3. Tell people when an attack is impending.
4. Don't need to tell people where an attack is going to. (Not much need, and THERE are spies once in a while)
5. Taxi Armies are good, don't forget them when expanding from your home.

Feel free to add to this list.

Good Tips Golga, but I disagree on the Cavalry. I have a mix right now of 11 ranged 6 cav and 20 melee. I have 4 pikes, alot of muskets, and 4 healers. I have the drummer as well. My ranged are mostly archers with 2 cannon and a mortar. The cavalry survives very well and is handy against the computer on the beach because it uses a lot of ranged and non pikeman. I also recommend buying the highest level troops you can afford as well. My only pvp loss is to 17 cav and 20 inf and it was very close after I had just fought 2 previous battles. I killed one of his cav and lost none of my men to death.

I am also very proud to announce that I have the lowest income of any Lt. Colonel in the Danish Army. I have spent all of Major and Lt Colonel (only 120 points from full Col.) on the beach fighting the shipwreck scenario, plus 5 pvp fights and some invasions. I have -63 income now. I got it right to the lowest as soon as I made Lt Col then got my freebie and alot of my men made promotions. Being negative is very important in PvP. It gives you extra strength and as long as you have the cash to cover it, the loss is easily bearable.

I have 4 Cavalry, and based on your comment, I thought you might have more.

Well, to update you, France has bit the dust, and now I have joined Denmark. I have so healing and money raising to do to get back to full strength.

My Current army makeup is:

4 Artillery:

2 Archers
1 Longbowman
1 Cannon

4 Cavalry:

2 Horse Archers
2 Dragoons

22 Infantry:

2 Garde
2 Samurai
1 Grenadier
2 Halberdier
4 Pikeman
6 Musketeers
1 Drummer
3 Shaman
1 Medic

(I lost a couple medics lately)

I think the essence of your post is that there are army make-ups good for training, and others good for PvP.

Here are some philosophies of Army construction.

1. Many weaker versus Few Stronger

Some fights have a few very large units. An army of a large number of smaller units will have the advantage here since the larger units can only damage one unit each. Thereby effectively over damaging the small units, while the smaller units can take the larger units out of the fight.

Remember there are two ways to remove a unit from a fight.

a. When a unit has less that 50% of its HP it is out of the fight.
b. If an unit has taken damage past 100% of its HP it is dead.

The key to winning fights is to knock the opponents out, not neccesarily kill them.

2. Cavalry vs. Ranged

Ranged units get to fire first, and if substantial enough can remove some key units. However Cavalry gets to deal 2X damage to all units that aren't Lancers or Pikeman. Both army types need a core of Infantry since after one set of Ranged attacks, then one set of Cavalry attacks, melee rules the day.

3. Balanced vs. Specialized

Some argue that balanced armies are weaker in almost all respects. I'm not sure about that, but clearly if you know what kind of opponent you are going to face you can build you army accordingly.

Some other basic concepts to remember. Assuming you are maxed out at negative income you are trying to balance:

1. HP per Gold of Income
and
2. Attack Power per Gold of Income

Well that wasn't the best summary, but hopefully you can take something from it.

I would hire more cavalry except I am trying to get up to six medics and I am so far over (or under) the income limit when I got promoted to Colonel I couldn't buy a single new unit. I will make brigadier this evening. As soon as you have six healers I recommend going to the lands. The lands are available in small towns with no castles. They are dots on the map not squares. Choose the encounter with the mob forming to avenge an insult. I just made 650 points and about 8k in gold training in one session. If I had more healers I might go indefinitely.

Hmmm, CODE didn't space it very well. I think it's the Paste's fault.
Note my special unit named for Tobaisds. I got him free when Toby reached captain!

Current Age ends today.
New Age starts today.

Let's try and get into the same country. Something that will be unpopular.

Brazil?
Thailand?
Portugal?

Let me know what you think..

6 hours and counting till new age.

Ok. If I'm able to log in right away, I'm thinking Portuguese India as a place for us to start.

I say we try and rotate the referral link usage since there is nothing lost by using it, and something to be gained.

If you get your referral link post it here. If you use one, say so if you register and get your confirmation.

I know Toby was active last age. Not sure who else.

I am online now and think we should start somewhere where we don't have enemies on all sides. Haven't looked at new map yet.
