Yak twisted my arm and we are going to experiment a little bit with google ads on the site. I'll be playing around with them a little bit, to see if I can get them so that they don't get in the way too much. When they do appear, if you have any comments on them, post them here. |

If the revenue generated from the ads exceed your operating budget, will you be mailing out cookies to all of us? Maybe only to those who've achieved spammer status? |

If this happens and we start bringing in revenues, this may change the face of Avian drastically. This needs to be considered very carefully before instituting anything. Obo, I have absolutely no problem with playing around with this to gain information on how it all works so that it can at least be intelligently discussed. My gut instinct tells me this is a great idea and a good and creative way to handle the operating expenses for the site. In the back of my mind though, I see this being a turning point if we decide that we want to go this route. Things like elections and decision making are going to have to be taken much more seriously (which I'm not sure is a good thing, considering the fluctuations in activity levels we've seen in the past). We've seen some pretty high levels of drama in the past, and it's been a good long while since we have had anything major happen, but I can guarantee you that if we throw some cash into the mix, it increases the chances that we'll see something even worse as far as drama goes. Just something to consider... it raises a lot of questions as far as who decides what and when. |

I see it as something quite simple. Obo works very hard to maintain what we have here, and if he wants to add some stuff to make it easier / more cost effective for him, sounds great to me. I am not opposed to him getting in the black on this website. Go for it Obo. |

I have had Google Ads on many of my sites over the years. The income is not huge, especially for a high traffic - low user site like Avian. Obo works harder than many of us realize to keep this site up. If we can make a few bucks a month to pay for the site and maybe kick some down to Obo then I am all for it. |

I see no problems since all the cash probably goes to Obo anyway, it shouldn't affect the elections or anything in the slightest! |

Can we take this discussion to the government forum please. Like I said, good idea, but I have questions that might not have been considered yet. http://www.avian-gamers.net/forums/view ... 1230#91230 |

Talon feel free to start a post and the Admins can stop in to answer any questions you have. Again we are not talking about huge sums here. maybe if we are lucky we can gather $20 bucks a month. |

http://www.avian-gamers.net/forums/view ... 1230#91230 Is it just me? I don't see the admin operations of this sight as part of the BoDs domain. Based on this knowledge, you may want to ask Obo the "why"and make some recommendations to him to mitigate his rationale. |

Even though my above posts added no value whatsoever except to make the Canadians hungry I am for this as well. So long as penis enlargement, ads to find the perfect wife and/or Russian mail order brides, and pheromone cologne ads are off the list. |

All ads are keyworded by the content on the page they are generated on. So depending which section of Avian you view you will see mainly Gamer Ads and the like. |

![]() I never see them unless I start a thread or read a very young thread. I always use the handy-dandy little orange sheet icon that takes me to the most recent post. Very convenient tool. |

Does just clicking on them do good things for the site, or do we actually have to buy stuff? 'Cause I can click on sponsored links constantly for five or ten minutes a day to generate some cash flow if it will help. |

Actually the tracking system is very advanced. If you click on the links over and over your IP wil be banned from googleAds. Try and click on them only once each a day. I usually click on 5-10 a day - throughout the day - and that is it. |

Nothing to set up. When there's something new posted to a thread, a little orange sheet of paper shows up immediately to the left of the name of the thread. Click on it and you're taken directly to the most recent post in that thread. Here's Obo setting up a revenue-generator based on clicking ads and here I am telling y'all how to not see them. Sorry, Obo! ![]() Actually, it's not correct to say I 'never' see them. I simply see them less often. When I do see them, they are not intrusive. |

So, maybe put them at the bottom of each page? Or, in each reply to every thread? Or, on the page for writing a response? ![]() |

I'm sending you the log-in info, Obo. This will drop almost immediately. I'd love it if we generated that much every day, but for some reason googleads gets tired of our faces pretty quick. |

They look much better today. Less yellow, and they seem to fit the background of the Avian pages better. |

Arindel, The Admins are generally free to make all Administrative decisions regarding the website, however anytime a decision will affect the PA as a whole, or an individual member of the PA, the Office of the President, and the BoD, have a responsibility to review their decisions and, if necessary, give them some guidance and/or suggestions. It is definitely not an issue where one group is going to tell the other what to do. We have actually never had that problem in the past, and I do not anticipate we will have that problem in this instance. But it is important that our Government review this and bring any concerns to the Admins so that they can weigh those concerns when making their final decision. Personally I do not see a problem with these ads, however my personal feelings only play a tiny role in the decisions and positions I take as a Director. |

It should be simple to do. |

As in a pop-up window? Man I hate those things. Hence pop-up blocker in force 24/7 365 days a year. |
