Cyrus: Well I guess it takes more than two hurricanes to keep me form graduating. I finally received my Bachelors of Science in Construction Management last Monday night. Started working for Jacobs Engineering Group EARLY Tuesday morning. I am starting out as a Cost Engineer III, and if Jacobs has their way with me I will one day grow up to be a Project Controls Manager. Those titles are not important to me as long as my paycheck keeps my wife happy and my coworkers keep me happy. I have been assigned to three projects in the Conoco-Philips group. I spent Wednesday setting up their budgets in their in-house software. My boss and his people were mostly out of the office this week, so when I complete my tasks there is nothing more to do. This makes work is slow and boring, but my office is big enough to occupy my time. I spend time thinking how I can personalize my office, or I walk around the building to see what doors my badge will unlock. I have reason to believe I can visit our Avian forums from work, but the policy clearly says I should not. I will let the “new boy” status rub off before I try posting from work. I feel like if they are ever going to keep an eye on me, or be intolerant of Avian’s site, it will be now more than later. The one thing that I think sucks is that my USB ports are disabled. So I can not sync up with my phone, and I can’t use my USB drive. There is nothing I can do about it either, because even big wigs have bitched about it when they realized we had the same phone. I guess it is part of keeping the information secure. Danyale: This can not get any weirder... The day I started my new Job was the same day Danyale started her new position. She was promoted to Assistant Branch Manager of her credit union. We knew her promotion would come sooner or later; however we did not know if they would bypass her only to give her a smaller branch later on in the year. She really wanted the position at her current branch because it was the biggest and busiest, and she felt she would be educated correctly in an atmosphere that required everyone be on their toes. So far she likes her job. I worried that her former coworkers would be bitter or not show her respect, but all 21 of them have been great so far, and seem to accept Danyale as their new boss. We will see how long that lasts, Danyale was told that come the first of the year she would have to whip the girls into better performance or cut the dead weight. The lady Danyale replaced was too lenient, and many of the girls have been taking advantage and under performing. |

Cyrus, Best of luck in your post-college career. I'm sure you'll do great, and find a way to post at work! Before long, you'll be checking forums every hour and posting away like the rest of us. Danyale, good luck in your new position! I'm sure it'll be more stressful, but it appears you have a great attitude going into it. |

Danyale should warn her employees now so later isn't a surprise. |

Cy & D, It's great to hear about the success of a couple of great folks who really deserve it! I'm sure school and work has already tested your 'together-ness' but please accept this as a friendly reminder to always put each other before your career, regardless of how well (or rough) that career may be at any one time. You guys make an awesome team. And to echo Krynn above, Yeah - get back into WoW! ![]() |
