Anyone still playing these? I just reactivated my CoH account over the weekend and rolled a new controller to play on Guardian.

Yep, exactly what I thought, too.

Heh, too bad I let my trial die before really getting a grasp on the game. My biggest gripe about EVE, and this is purely personal, is that I don't like being stuck in a ship all the time. I'm not a big fan of that perspective.

Im with you on the Tetran. I tend to play the character and get attached more to it than the game itself. Probably the main reason I played SWG so long it I enjoyed my characters.

Same for CoV, I made a character that I liked and played it for a good while. In the end though CoV (and CoH) is a treadmill. With a few friends of a nice grind group the game is fun. I like how you can plow through 5,10 or 15 NPCs with blasters and effects flying. That was quite fun.

In the end the game was just too 1 dimensional for me. Fun for a time, if not very fun for a time, but not longterm.

CoH is a gap filler for me. Always has been. Which explains why my "main" is only lvl 34 and I've had the game since launch.

Maybe I'll try EVE again. From reading the EVE forums, you guys seems to be having fun. And I'm burnt out on WoW. I've put my two weeks notice in at work and will have some time on my hands after Feb 3rd to game a bit lol.

Then get into the game now, so you will have some skills to go out and have some fun .

You might like a decent combat build (if that's your thing) or a decent trader build (ditto). Mining really seems to be an option for 2-4 days out of a week. Trading, is short lived as other people use up all the oterh good routes first (but, there is isk to be made).

Ultimately, do what you want to do to have some fun :)

How does trading work? Is it like Tradewars where you buy a shipload of resources, find the port with the best buy rate, and find it's partner station and run back and forth selling, making a little less each time?

Kinda, but not exactly.

Each station (and there are usually multiple per solar system) has a finite list of what it has available for sale or buy (orders and item type). there is a price and a number of units that the stattion will sell or buy and once gone, will need to be replenished. Also, there are NPC and PC orders that can be filled, but I'm not too sure how trading goes with PCs. I would see that more in-line with ore/refined metals and items to purchase (such as ships, components or upgrade components)

Once they are gone, the prices can then change to the next in the queue. Thus activites can't be carried forward for an infinite number of loops. Even then, I believe, a buy or sell could affect the other market orders for that product.

While I am not 100% certain, I beleive these buy/sell orders do come in avarious points during the day (but, I have seen some good ones right after server start-up, but they go very very quickly). There are people out there who have all this down to a science, so the huge/successful orders are generally gone in no time.

Pretty mych what Arindel said.

Station A has 100,000 widgets for sale at 90isk per (ipu)
Station B is looking to buy 40,000 widgets at 150ipu
Your ship can only hold 10,000 widgets at a time

You then plan to do 4 runs of 10,000 per trip

Here is the tricky part. If it is a NPC Seller (station A) once you buy the first load of 10,000 widgets the price may go up (prices fluctuate -30% - +30% per buy/sell for NPCs) or it may not. This is because there is a high demand (now that you placed and order) so the system can rasie the price due to higher demand. So you dont want to rick it so you buy all 40k widgets.

You take your first load to the Buyer (station B). If you sell these 10,000 widgets immediately the price could drop (same +30 - -30%). This is becuase the order is being filled thus the demand is lower so the price naturally drops. To avoid this you bring all 40k widgets to the seller in staiton B and then sell all 40k at once thus avoiding any market changes that may result from your selling.

The kicker is, what if someone is doing the exact same route as you are and they happen to sell first and you are then stuck with a rock bottom sell price and you take a loss? This has happened to me once. You either hav eto find another buyer or leave that stock in the station and as the price goes back up you can sell it then bu this could take days. It is a gamble as it is a living and breathing market economy.

If it is a PC buyer or seller the price will remain the same no matter how many buys or sells you put in. This is becuase a player can make a buy order or a purchace order for X ammount and it stays X ammount until the order is filled.

How do you know? Well you don't really. You should just plan on an 'Market Commodities' (you will understand that once ingame) are NPC buyers and sellers. Anything else; Ore, parts, ships, weapons etc will probably be PC buyers and sellers.

It is a fully functional market. At first you make peanuts and it is barely worth your time and or effort. But the deeper you get into - and the fatter your bankroll you invest in it becomes - the more profit you can make. It is very complex and I dont pretend to understand it all but as I read the boards more and more I am starting to realize that you can make huge profits. It is said that there are players who can make 1billion isk a day trading. Obviously they have some huge trade secrets and trade routes that they are not sharing with anyone but the potential is there.

Just an example.

This morning I bought some shares to sell (same system). I'm not sure if someone beat me to the punch, or if my buying the shares, lowered the overall price.

but, my 1 million profit turned out to be 350,0000 profit (still an excellent in-system trade by my standards), but there was less than 80 seconds between buy and sell.

yeah trading in Everyshore and essence is hard. Im slowly starting to venture out further toward 0.0 space. not in it but closer to the rim. This cuts down on traffic and also new players making trades.

but still 350k isnt a bad take for a same system trade.

What are some of the better outlying systems?

0.4 space doesn't seem to bad. Plus, the itty's are fair cheap to purchase, so their destruction wouldn't be a serious crime (imho). If the clone is up to date, then a death wouldn't be as much trouble.

Unless, you only get your clone at the time of the copy and not any skills after you upgraded your clone? I assumed you got up until the point of your death (to a maximum of the skills for the clone).

This might be an important point to know :)

nope your clone covers -all- skill points up to the threshold of the clone.

remember you need to reclone if and when you get podded.

Haulers are a prime target as we are likely to be carrying things of value. When I run trade missions I equip as many Warp Core Stabilizers as my medium slots allow. Also, if I have a high value cargo 2mil+ I'll make instas in a shuttle for .4 systems.

I love those shuttles :)

Yeah, you can make a good insta's by creatign a location right after you undock from the station. This will put you within 2500m, if not on top of it. (tip in case anyone didn't know out there).
