Wright said in another interview that there will be a DS version, so I think I might get it for my lovely Enamel Navy DS Lite instead of the PC (if that version is decent).

Somewhere between this year and next year.
It was at the end of this summer before, but I've seen 2007 mentioned lately.

I would almost say a DS version would be cooler since you could take it with you. The game looks like it can be a pretty casual game so not having it locked to a desktop could make it even better.

I think its SP only but all the different visuals and traits of other creatures/civs you would encounter would be player created. So while you would encounter other player created things, you wouldn't directly be interacting with another player.

Interesting side note... my coworker has a friend from college who works on this project... he is in charge of the sound engine which others use to program in the sound.

Yeah its SP only, but the creatures/civs you encounter on different worlds are supposed to be player created. So while you won't directly play with or against other people, you will see their content. I think all of that stuff was supposed to load in the background if you were connected to the internet.

Just a reminder that the creature creator is set to be released tomorrow. The freebie version does not include all the bells and whistles of the retail release but I believe you can pay for a full creator now, and have that $ put towards the retail version. Don't quote me on that, but its something I recall reading somewhere. Only would apply to buying the game right from the Spore website I would think (i.e. not BestBuy / your local game shop).

kinda cool...cant figure out how to get the body to be fatter or skinner after its one way or the other...same for limbs but its kinda fun to play around with...interesting to see how the whole thing will come together...made a lobster looking fella - not sure how usefully pincers will be for a sentient life form

You can get either the trial version, which only has about 25% of the content, or the full creature creator for $10/£5 (which you can claim back against the price of the full game).

I tooled around with this a little bit this morning. Fun stuff.
Spore is a game I know I will buy, I know I will play but, being honest with myself, I don't see playing more than maybe a week or so. Like most 'RTS' or 'Sim' games they are fun but I bore of them quickly.

Agreed. I will be grabbing it but the staying power is up in the air at this point.

I am really hoping we can choose specific individuals who register their Spore copies and submit their creations to the SPore database so that we could get a mini Avian Spore group going. ie. only get creations from our fellow members and friends.

I am gonna play around with the editor today. Made one guy last night but have to figure out how to link his pic here.

You can select where you get content from. You can select to only get content from friends...Maxis...or specific items from the sporepedia. So in essence you can have an Avian only galaxy. Also as things appear in your sporepedia you can delete the entry if you dont like the species
