My Current Speakers, Mouse, Keyboard will switch from my old PC to my New PC. Looks like the kids will get the 2.8 Pentium with 2 GB RAM. Poor little things. I will have to get the thing toned down on the noise as it's pretty rough.

My wife forced me to purchase a PC before 8/10. I hope she realizes she may not see me for a few days after that :)

I hope you already have a nice monitor to hook that up to.

It would be a shame to invest that much in a box and hook it up to green screen.

Good point, Golga.

I've seen your monitor, buddy. Watch the thread about the LCDs. ;)

Well, you have to plan ahead for christmas :P. Better to have something than nothing and a 20 inch flat screen (CRT) still looks good enough to me. The only real problem is when you are used to something better and switch to something worse.

like going from cable modem back to phone/non-dsl modem.

Its a great setup...the only thing I see that potentially you may have wished for down the road is a stronger power supply...any chance you can go with a 500W power box?

As I've upgraded my comp over the last 4 years...not having to touch this area has saved me more than a few headaches (420W)...i've switched out many vid cards, a mobo, fan, memory, added HD's, etc...and its the only constant.

Another reason to think down the road about power reqs, is that once the those physics cards start making their way into the main stream it'll be just another thing potentially taking up a PCI slot (and drawing power)...

Just my 2cents.

It didn't show, but I did indeed spec it with a 500W power supply. Good catch!

I agree with you on the HDs. 10k RPM is nice but very expensive. We use 10k drives for high end video editing. 72,000rpm is more than anyone needs for firewire video input and excellent R/W for gaming and general computing.

once you step to 10,000 rom your price shoots sky high.

I think, that one of the main stream physics engine guys (think it was havok) is trying to get them intergrated into the graphics card rather than issue a separate card. Also apparently a separate card doesn't actually do much for the gameplay as most of the physics calculation is software based.

looks like the early entrants are going both ways...
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,200456,00.html

PhysX does not work in laptops, nor is it compatible with game consoles like Microsoft Corp.'s (MSFT) Xbox 360 and Sony Corp.'s (SNE) upcoming PlayStation 3, which pack speedy multicore processors but lack physics acceleration at the hardware level.

Ageia's chips, which became available last month, come preinstalled on certain pricey, ultra-powerful PCs from Dell Inc. (DELL), its wholly owned subsidiary Alienware Inc., and Falcon Northwest. But these systems cater to a select group of hardcore gamers willing to spend $5,000 or more for a PC.

Two electronics manufacturers also sell standalone add-on cards for about $300.

I'm probably the only one who cares. But after several delays (Case was back ordered for 2 weeks), My PC is due to arrive on 9/5 (Patch Tuesday for those WOW folks).

I'm still holding my breath, the company just gives you an odd feeling likes it's 2 guys in a garage putting these things together. Things, like requiring 12 rings before their automated system picks up and the fact that it seems like there are only 2 guys who answer the phone.

BBB has them at a B rating which means they seem legit...

You'd be surprised at how often that is the case. But, hey, if two guys in a garage can continually put out quality product, more power to 'em! :D
