Post subject:  Road Trip! WOOO!

Alright, So i'm leaving tomorrow morning... (assuming i can drag my ass outa bed in the morning) for a road trip into the unknown, possibly dangerous gun-toting psychotic american lands.

Don't know if i'll have internet every night, but i thought it'd be interesting to make this thread, and update it if anything interesting happens along the way.

If anyone isn't interested in reading this, I don't want to hear about it, Go away. For all others, comments, well wishes, insults or suggestions on things to see around where I post I'm staying for the night would be cool.

I'm making my way to DC to visit yak and his merry band of buffoons, and see the sights and stuff, then going north to visit family in ontario for a few days, and then back to here through the states again. If anyone wants me to stop by, and my GPS determines you're not rediculously out of the way (Talon) post here, or send a PM, and I'll see what I can do.

Ok, to start with, what are you driving? VW Bus I hope. lol.

And have a safe trip. Don't pick up any hitchhikers along the way unless they're really hot. Just make sure there's no movement in the bushes behing her when you stop to pick her up. ;)

Ok, not really the crack of dawn that i was intending, but I finally got out of the house with everything i could remember i wanted to bring at 10:45. Only thing so far that I know i forgot is my own shampoo.

So, first couple hours, pretty uneventfull. Lotsa fields, cows... uhh... well, thats pretty much all alberta has to offer.

Then I get to the boarder. Was expecting to get a hard time, but what actually happened was completely fucking rediculous. I pull up to the booth, and the minimum wage wanna-be cop starts asking me where i'm going. so I tell him. Virginia. Asks me what i'm going to virginia for. I said to meet a friend. he asks where i know this friend from. I said online. He asks how long i've known him for. I had know clue how long i've known yak, so i said 5 years. Alright sir, i want you to pull your car over and go inside.... i said alright, and whispered some obscenities under my breath as i was pulling over.

So I go inside. and wait. and wait. half hour later, some bald retard calls my name, (and pronounces it wrong) starts asking me the same questions the booth guard did. so i answered. he's acting like i'm part of some kind of terrorist organization questioning everything i say. wants to know yak's address phone number, name, etc. i said sure, i'll go get it all from my car. and he goes. No, fill out this form and sit down. So i fill out this "Customs Immigration form" guy comes back a half hour later, looks over it and starts questioning what i wrote down... as if i'm lieing on it. finally accepts my answers, and gives me another form to fill out. I don't even remember what this one was for.

Half hour later. comes back, and i get the third degree on those answers too. finally satisfied with those answers, he told me to give him my car keys and sit down... now here i was getting noticibly pissed off, i was all ready to let loose a few choice words for this retard. but i decided it would be in my best interests here not to verbalize my thoughts. so i gave him the keys and sat down. half hour later, he waddles out and drives my car into a garage and shuts the door.... that pissed me off probably the most.... how the fuck can they just take your car out of your sight and start looking through it? again i bit my tongue... tasted some blood.

so half hour later he comes back, calls me up, and then starts asking the same fucking questions over again. By this time i really couldn't give a shit and i was being extremely short with my answers, if i started saying more, bad stuff probably would have happened. so he says to wait, and goes and talks to someone in an office to the side, that i can't see. comes back 10 minutes later, gives me my keys and drivers license, says have a good trip. I told him i'd like my birth certificate back too. whispered under my breath a satisfying "jackass" he gets it, and i leave. making sure he can see me checking my trunk, and backseat for my shit.

So Driving off, I punch in Billings, MT in my GPS. Arrival time 10:30pm. Jesus fucking christ. Like hell I'm going to accept that. so, I take a look at the map, saw a more direct route, but the roads have a lower speed limit... said meh, and went that way anyway. Y'know, it was kinda satisfying, driving the rest of the way here at 140km/h (about 80mph) on roads that had posted limits significantly less, and seeing the arrival time tick down 1 minute after another till it finally settled on 8:58. Almost hit 3 deer on the way, a baby and mother the first time, the baby darted across the road right in front of me, the mother turned back, second incident was a single deer that bolted back a second or 2 before i woulda hit it. Glad the whole "Deer in the headlights" thing is just a cliche.

So here I am, tired as hell, I'm going to bed.

IJT, I hope you don't mind me using your nerfshot site for posting these...

I think I would have ample tolerance concerning border matters... but I doubt I could hold back for as long as you did. I bet it would have helped if you said you were going to Louisiana instead of Virginia P).

Ravage is in the U.S. That's... interesting. I thought it was all just rumor, until I was watching the news and saw the value of the Dollar drop significantly today against the Yen. This peaked my interest, so I got online and found the explanation. Ravage. :P

Offer is still on the table Rav, come on down and I'll take you to the gun range. Atlanta is close by, we can go meet up with Angus too. ;)

If you guys make it down, I'll break out the alcohol. I got fixin's for Long Island Iced Tea, or some damn good 15 year old scotch. (Glenfidditch)

Yes, I'll use any excuse to drink heavily...

We'll see... Maybe i'll give yak a break early, and head south to meet up with you guys, maybe not... we'll see how it goes... I'll let you know this week sometime.

And now for tonight's episode of the Grand adventures of Ravage....

Nothing so dramatic happened today... Lots of hills, interesting cliffs. The "Red Hills" in Wyoming were pretty cool... like red.. uhh.. hills popping up everywhere... not really sure if this is the case, but it looked like pretty much everywhere, the dirt itself seemed to be a dark crimson red. Haven't really seen that before.

Stopped at 2 National Monuments, the first was Pompey's Pillar... it was a big chunk of rock in the middle of nowhere... took pics, but it didn't make the pic of the day. Next stop was the Little Bighorn battlefield monument... that was actually pretty impressive. Had a trail 5 miles long, that you could drive on, every so often they setup places to pull to the side, with litle kiosk with some background info on what happened in the area. The burial place of general Custer was prety cool too.

Crappy part of the day... my cruise control died... I'm going to have to see if i can get it looked at before i head out tomorrow morning. the rest of the trip will suck if i don't have it. :(

Now for the pic... I drove by this guy, he was standing off the side of the road.... i stopped, backed up... pulled up beside him, and he just stood there looking at me.... so... here ya go.

Got some good news to report today... My cruise control fixed itself overnight. I think the most likely explination for that was that my car was pissed at me yesterday for that 16 mile unpaved gravel road I drove down as a shortcut between Pompay's Pillar and Little Bighorn. I set the avoidances in my GPS to not take me down any more unpaved roads as restitution to my car, and i think that did the trick, she treated me good today.

Started bright and early today. Stayed overnight in Rapid City, South Dakota so it was about 30 mins out of the way to get to Mount Rushmore. The work itself is quite impressive if you haven't seen it. I never realized how damn high up it is. its like carved in at top of a mountain, i always just assumed it was eye level. One thing i did discover.... lincoln needs to be hosed down or something, i got a closeup pic of his nose, and it looks like theres boogers dripping out. I'll post it if theres a request, but if not, you'll have to settle for the pic below.

The rest of the trip was uneventfull... more hills... plains... uhh... roads... thats pretty much it. I'm in Omaha Nebraska tonight.... I locked the door as soon as i got in. Theres hillbillies about.

Again, not a whole lot to report today, driving through the midwest doesn't give much opportunity for sight seeing.... on the plus side, i got a damn lot of territory covered today, even with the 2 small detours i opted to take. First was to see the city of a close friend i knew from long ago... was only 10 mins out of the way. Second was the lincoln childhood memorial here in Indiana... which turned out to be a big pole with a flag on it... yay.

I don't even know the town i'm in right now... I don't even know if its classified as a town. theres a dennys across the street, maybe it is. :)

There were a few "firsts" of note today. This was the first day I've seen the sun since the trip started. The first day it didn't rain, or snow since the trip started. So all in all, i think things are looking up.

Only 8 more hours till I get to Roanoake, where i'll spend the night tomorrow, then meet up for lunch with a friend before heading to Fairfax on thurs to meet up with Yak. Its fun having all my plans come to fruition.

Special treat today. 2 pics of the day!

You bastards better appreciate this one, I had to drive off the highway, and right through Cracktown St. Louis to get this pic. I shoulda walked up the hill to get an unobstructed view, but.... did I mention Cracktown?

This was taken before the last, but It deserves posting.... the really creepy thing, is that right after I snapped this, my Ipod started playing "Dueling banjos".... *shudders*

Ugh... well.. I saw trees. and hills... and more trees. I don't think i've ever seen more trees in one day in all my life.

most of the day was spent off the interstates and driving on some windey, hilly, oftentimes annoyingly single laned US highways. Gorgeous country settings, but a man can only take so much of that crap. only made it worse that the only radio stations that came in clear through the mountains was country, and twangy music stations. double ugh!

So, I'll be in Fairfax tomorrow, and finally get to relax for a couple days... driving is hard work damnit. Looking forward to it.

I don't even know what to post for the pic of the day... all there were were trees... so i guess thats what you get.

Woo! i've arrived. stayed in roanoake half the day, then got back on the road and headed north to fairfax. Again... there wasn't really much to see, so i don't really have anything worthy of a pic of the day for you guys today.

When i got here, I barely had time to stretch before yak and his lovely wife were ushering me off to go for dinner and drinking. Hell i'm not gonna complain. Met up with dbakke at the place, and shot the shit for an hour or 2. Both him and yak are hella cool people.

Looking forward to my pentagon tour tomorrow... From what i've been told, Tobiasds is supposed to be "sick" from work tomorrow and show up for the tour as well. That'll be cool to hang out with him for a bit too if he can make it.

Uhh, well... heres a random pic from my trip anyway... wasn't taken today but better than nothing i guess. Here's me at the 40k Odometer mark in my car, I've long since passed that... i think i'm up to like 43,000 KM now.

So I riding in Ravages car lastnight (with his pimp GPS device) and I glance down at the speed-o-meter and it said 100MPH! I looked up freightened for my life (after all it is a canadian driving) and just as soon as I opened my mouth to say something I remembered not only is Ravage Canukian but his silly car is too...

Oh, and I clearly heard him say 'Aboot' but I chose to only laugh at him on the inside.
