POLL EXPLANATION & ABOUT THE BCS:

To derive a team’s poll percentages in the Harris Interactive and USA Today polls, each team’s point total is divided by a maximum 2825 possible points in the Harris
Interactive Poll and 1550 possible points in the USA Today Poll. Teams are assigned an inverse point total (25 for #1, 24 for #2, etc.) for each of their respective
computer poll rankings to determine the overall computer component. The highest and lowest ranking for each team is dropped, and the sum total of the remaining four
rankings is divided by 100 (the maximum possible points). This figure produces a Computer Rankings Percentage. The six computer ranking providers are Anderson &
Hester, Richard Billingsley, Colley Matrix, Kenneth Massey, Jeff Sagarin and Peter Wolfe. Each computer ranking accounts for schedule strength within its formula. The
BCS Average is calculated by averaging the percent totals of the Harris Interactive and USA Today Polls, and Computer rankings. The highest BCS Average receives the
#1 ranking, the second highest receives #2, and so forth.

The BCS is a five-game arrangement for post-season college football that is managed by the 11 Division I-A conferences and Notre Dame. Its purpose is to match the two
top-ranked teams in the final BCS standings in a national championship game and to create competitive match-ups in the four other BCS bowl games. For more

Honestly, as an Alumni of UCF, I don't really give a crap either way about college football. Does anyone know the facts on how the BCS works? I know it's a combo of voting and some computer formula, but I'd like to know the details. It seems as though it would be impossible the have a playoff system unless you extend the college football season by over a month. Oh, since my finacee attended Florida for a year and a half and is a huge gator football fan, she's really excited about the game. I'm sure that she'll want to have a party for the game.

If all leagues had a championship game, it would make it much easier for the BCS. Long ago the plan was to have league championship games, thus giving top teams another shot at proving their worth... but as time has shown, not all leagues have followed through

... and here we have another disgruntled SEC fan. The Big Ten doesn't have and doesn't need a championship game. We have the Ohio State/Michigan Game. When a conference has less than 12 teams, there is no need for a championship game. No offense Cy, but I'm tired of hearing about the SEC not being fairly treated. Now this year you've got the best SEC team leapfrogging a clearly superior team into the number 2 spot and all this does is set them up for a major trouncing, and it makes the Fiesta Bowl a boring game. The real excitement will be in the Rose Bowl this year. I don't know if an Ohio State/Michigan rematch would have made me any happier this year, but it would have at least been a match between the two best teams in the country for the whole shabang.

I did not say anything about the SEC being treated unfair. I could care less if Florida played Ohio or not. I guess I am still on cloud nine over USC loosing. I usually root for Michigan. I think year by year they get less respect in the media than they deserve. However just a few weeks ago they played Ohio and lost. You have to win the big games late in the season.

I think Florida is going to get annihilated. The better game would've been a Michigan / OSU re-match. People say the BCS is an imperfect system, but it will continue to be a joke unless all conferences get a championship game or they institute a playoff system. Then again, Michigan's schedule should've been a little tougher too...

That 7-5 year last year didn't help Michigan's case... and our problem in the 9 years prior to this one is that we have underachieved like crazy. But yes, I agree Cyrus... What boggles me is that everyone was set on Michigan playing OSU if USC lost before this weekend... then when USC actually lost... everyone was like, "oh no... this could really happen... ummm who's playing right now that looks good besides Michigan... ohh... Florida". And then you have Gary Danielson and CBS tooting Florida's horn for 2 hours straight. I can see the memo those CBS execs sent him now... "Convince people to vote for Florida, it'll help our ratings next year." The timing of those games was a perfect setup to get Florida in. This reminds me of 1997 when Nebraska won a game on an illegal play (the kick-touchdown against Missouri) and then in the bowl game 3 days after Michigan's Rose Bowl victory, the announcers and Nebraska players and coaches campaigned so hard for the championship that they convinced the coaches to give them the crown. Michigan and Lloyd Carr just sat there and didn't say a word. Also, I don't see why these guys can't figure out a playoff system. Every other sport can!

Plus I wouldn't mind the more college football Jan-Feb of the next year. Also on another note, I hope CBS looses the SEC rights. I heard a rumor that FOX will try hard for it when it comes up for renewal.

They are having all the NFL guys do CFB analysis and it seems really awkward to me. They're gonna be calling the games too... will be interesting to see how it goes.

I just keep thinking of Talon and laugh laugh laugh. Danyale thinks I lost my mind. But there is still alot of time left, and I am not foolish enough to think it is over. Lot of game left. Not the blowout you thought it would be?

Stupid Buckeyes... the ONE time I need them to come through... they are blowing it. If they win I win $60 from my friends in a bowl pool. Only 20 points down... sigh. This is clearly Talon's fault.

Flordia owned Ohio the whole game, both sides of the ball. Even more so in the second half. Lot of bad predictions in this forum. You guys stay out of my stocks! SEC baby! Bout the Defense. When will the final rankings be out?

I think Univ. of Ohio showed up...not Ohio State. What a pathetic performance by the Heisman winner to say nothing of the defense. SEC did very well.

The funny thing was that I missed most of the first quarter. Danyale was getting our new maid up to speed and that took longer than anticipated. So by the time we left for supper the game was just about to come on. As we dove to find some food, I could not stop laughing. This is before I saw any part of the game. Danyale asked me what was so funny and all I could answer was Talon. For some reason I remembered how excited Talon was for Ohio before the season started. Knowing he was likely watching the game, and thinking about him all pumped up, face painted, and being all crazy caused me to laugh and laugh. Imagine my surprise when the Illegal Burrito had the game on while we ordered, and Florida was ahead. After seeing that I really started laughing. I went to the forums at halftime, knowing that Florida was dominating the game. Comparing that with the posts in this thread and others to what was really happening almost made me tear up for you guys. I still think LSU was a better team than Florida this year. Ohio, Michigan, LSU; they all have to win the games that count. Florida did.
