Do people play Second Life? I had a lot of problems with the install and gave up, and my friend that plays doesn't really like it. That article looked neat, though.

it's sounds neat...but it also definately sounds like it would appeal to certain types of gamers only. It seems like it would appeal to programmers more than to general gamers.

PERSONAL OPINION ONLY: (and I'm probably a hypocrite so...take with a grain of salt)

I would never play Second Life...the idea of playing a game where you have pay real money to buy things I think is a rip off.

Now this is where my sentiment may not pass the sniff test as I have paid for ISK in EVE...lol. But it's different...it really is!

As I understand it, it's free unless you want nice real estate from the devs or to buy things that other people are selling. Could be wrong, but there was no charge for installation and getting started when I tried. Just didn't work well enough to hold my interest.

I equate Second Lifers to people who do/would/have played SIMS. nothing there for 'gamers' really.

oddly enough it gets huge press. It was on MSNBC Countdown on Friday night. On the internal message boards at work people are always posting about Second Life and how companies and universities are adopting it/using it for training and meeting places.

I have lots of thoughts on Second Life oddly enough few involve 'play'. Most are exercises in Serious Gaming.

At the end of the day. Second Life is very good for the industry (the Serious Games industry) as it brings corporations, universities and individuals into the 3d game space.

While I have little praise for playing SL I have huge praise for what it has managed to do with and for itself.
