Post subject:  Want to visit London? Here's how to get there...
A. Browse to http://maps.google.com/.

B. Click on the "Get Directions" tab.

C. Enter New York, NY in the left-hand directions field and London in the right-hand directions field. Click Get Directions".

D. Review the route, taking note of step 23.

so, i geuss that kind of things happen alot with google things

i remember when typing "miserable failure" and then click im feeling lucky, you would get to president bush's biography :D

and im pretty sure they mean go on a boat acros the atlantic :P

Well, actually that wasn't intentional on Google's part. It was done by "Google bombing," basically there's a way to get a website to show up as the first result given certain keywords. There's a similar thing for searching "french military victories" and hitting "I'm Feeling Lucky."

But the Google map thing is quite amusing. I guess Google Map doesn't do airports and boats (just yet). ;)

After experiencing Heathrow this last March, there is the temptation to actually follow these directions on my next trip. What a nightmare. :roll:

I think I'd be intrigued to hear this story! I've only ever had good experiences with Heathrow.

How many other major airports have you visited, out of curiosity?

Not only were my own experiences absolutely dreadful at Hearthrow, but it is internationally known for being terrible. The airport employees were about as rude as they come. If you're counting on them as your country's first impression for visitors, you're really out on a limb.

But don't feel too bad. Returning through Washington Dulles was nearly as bad.

Dublin was surprisingly good, however. Easy entrance into the country, very friendly people to help with directions to gates, etc.

Well I suppose as a non-EU citizen, you probably had extra customs stuff to go through. With us you walk through a security buzzer thingy, show your passport and there's no further contact with employees at all.

I suspect the rude employees were either bored students or bored underpaid worker! :P
