LOL!

I just wonder how feasible this will be. It does sound interesting, but how limited will the product end up being.

just got this email...

Hello everyone!

We’d like to invite you for a public test of a puzzle game that we’ve created called Wheelwright! This test is not to focus test the game itself (it is not in a complete or polished state) but to test our platform technology. We will be testing our platform’s ability to create and maintain a large number of singleplayer game instances. Additionally, we will be testing chat between instances and persistence.

The link to visit will be:
http://www.metaplace.com

We hope to see a large number of participants help us with this stress test. Please join us on Friday, February 15 at 5pm PST for a brief chat before playing the game, then followed up by a short wrap-up chat. See you there!

The Metaplace Team

thought i'd share.

Yep. Got it.

I'm spending most of that day at the Casino, however I am going to try to be home in time to participate in that. (Going to be difficult to do, considering Valentine's day is the Anniversary of when my wife and I started dating).

Anyone else here planning on participating??

your one of those sick couples...or were you just trying to do the 2 presents in one gag?

Has anyone here been playing around with metaplace much? i glanced at it but its not really my cup of tea [Read: I know morse code and html code and thats where my knowledge ends]

It is still in closed alpha. They had their first dev chat a few weeks back, which was the first real public test. The chat was a standard chatroom made in metaplace (with some tester help), but also turned out to be an isometric space with avatars

There is still a long way to go yet.

The majority of users will likely be players rather than creators.
But you won't necessarily need to know any coding to be able to make something, as you can use preexisting modules and stylesheets to piece game together.

It just happened to be the day we had our first real date. Being a woman she had to make it a day we need to celebrate. Our Wedding Anniversary is just before Xmas (there's your 2 in 1. lol)

From everything I've seen this really is not going to be rocket science. If you can do html, then you will probably be able to do quite a lot in Metaplace. As Obo said, they are designing this so you don't need to know how to code in order to create things. Consider Metaplace the Wysiwyg for coding, except that you can get into the coding if you want to.

I didn't get to make the Dev Chat. How was it??

I haven't been able to get on to Metaplace much from work, so I'm falling a little behind until my home internet is back up.

Cept that my post was done to be considerate to the community, rather than clutter the boards with multiple threads and stickys regarding games that have little interest in this community.

Hello,

We want to remind everyone that we are having a public stress test of a new graphical social world tomorrow! This world will allow you to wander around a town square, walk into neighborhoods and explore some of the customized plots of land that our testers and staff have made. Some of the goals of this test are:

* Debut new art we've made and get your feedback
* Stress test our servers
* Test moving from place to place and world to world.
* Exploring worlds that have been made by our alpha testers.

Here are the details:

Wednesday, April 30th
5:00pm Pacific Time
www.metaplace.com

We hope to see everyone there, and can't wait to get your feedback!

Just an FYI for those who have looked at our Chat room that is sponsored by MetaChat....

The world they will be stress testing this afternoon is much nicer than MetaChat. Graphically speaking, even if they scale it back for the test, which I don't believe they will do.

If you have the time today, please try to make it to the Stress Test. This is really going to help them get more stuff ready for Release.

I offered initially in the game design forum for anyone who was interested in a beta key for this. But in case anyone missed it I'll post here.
I've got about 20 invites to dish out over two accounts, so if anyone wants one just send me a pm with a valid email address.

Since you posted, Obo, I have some questions for ya. I have been unable to do anything since we have our second child on the way, and my wife has complications, so all my spare time is taken up.

Is there any word on if a new Chat Client will be released? Something we can put where you had MetaChat for a while?

How do you feel Beta is going?? As good as Alpha?
