Lately it gets past 95 degrees by 8AM. By noon it is up to 115 degrees in the sun. I walk to lunch, by the time I get to the dinning hall I am drenched in sweat and have almost no appetite. Thank god for the cold watermelon, pineapple, and grapes… I don’t want to eat anything hot at lunch. I must have lost 25 pounds by now.

Today I bring you pictures of French paratroopers. They jump out over the sea, the breeze brings them over land by the time they touch down. Usually there are 3 different groups using the round parachutes shown, and another team using the airfoil kind. This day there was only one group of rounds jumping.

If its like going to Bogota - tell everyone you're from Canada.
Lots of U.S. unfriendly types out there.

Checking with the government per diem rates to see if they give hazzardous duty pay will give you an idea of the conditions there.

Cool. Those are the kind of Pics I like looking at.

I'm still trying to figure out the make of that Pick-up truck in the foreground of the last picture.....I know it's not a Ford.....

18 months later and I am back home!

I flew back home late Sunday night, but I had to fly up to Norfolk Tuesday night to knock out some meetings and reports for the business line. I will stay in Norfolk until Thursday night then back home for good.

It is going to be weird going back to the office for work. I'm looking forward to getting my life back to normal. Gaming, TV, and all that.

There's no place like home and a loving wife.

Time to get yer game on, you've earned it.

Must be great. A few weeks and you'll forget what it was like to be away.

Just when I thought I was out... they pull me back in.

The competition had been pursuing me for 6 months. I did not give them much attention until my current project was clearly over, and I was returning to the US. At that time I bumped the old conversations to renew discussions. They wanted me pretty bad, but they could not pay me enough. I declined their offer a few weeks ago. I was at peace with my decision. Home is so amazing, and I had been away for so long.

The next day I received an offer that I could not refuse. I secretly flipped flopped back and forth with the decision while their HR checked my references and lined up doctor appointments. But in the end, after I analyzing my budget and all that I can accomplish; the decision to go back to Djibouti was the winner.

My last day at my current employer is this Friday. The tickets have not been purchased, but the preliminary itinerary has me leaving this Saturday, arriving next Monday. The contract they have with me is one year renewable. However I believe their contract with the Military will last at least two years. Beyond that they are currently looking at work as far out as 2012-2014. Assuming they like my work, Assuming I have the stamina, I could be in Africa for a long long time.

Well, sorry to hear you are leaving home again. But I am sure you have thought things through and discussed thing with your wife to know what you are doing.

Keep posting more pics while you are away.
