Thanks for the link, but I stopped reading after the second question. The obvious wow bias is a little childish. It makes his faq meaningless in my eyes.

I read most of it and the WoW bias is not there for all the items. I read his post as if he was essentially copy/pasting questions/answers from others sites. The first few were obviously WoW biased. Some of the others did have good info, but as with most posts, I'll take each with a grain of salt.

Check the Reign boards GoG. Someone there was in beta and posted a little bit, though that thread likely degraded into a troll war as most do these days.

These guys are a little fanboyish when it comes to warhammer but I feel they have a pretty good taste in MMOs.

Thanks for the links. Good stuff.

I've already ordered the CE, so I'll guess I'll just have to wait and see. But I'm not really wowed by anything I've read or seen yet, which is a bit worrisome.

Here's a good review by "An Old Guy"
http://www.warhammeralliance.com/forums/showthread.php?t=60050

I've also watched a few WAR movies in the last day or two. It's looking pretty good, and most of what I've read points to good things.

The leveling, especially, seems more involved and interesting. And while I'm certainly a gear whore, it seems that gear doesn't play as big a role as in wow, for example.

Starting to get a little bit excited about. I need to settle down! :D

After playing all weekend I can say that this game does have what SWG was missing in the GSW department - you really get the feel of combat and combat preparation all around you.

Finding the crafting tab took for-feaking-ever.

The game is very linear you have to quest your way out of an area although your not locked in or trapped completely in noobville but you'd get slaughtered if you left.

After playing about 12 hours I got a squig herder to 8th and a chaos chosen to 5th.

GSW = GCW (Galactic Civil War)??

This gives me high hopes. Questions:

1. How do you find the combat? Slow and clunky, or fair/reasonably paced?

2. Graphics roughly equal to WoW?

3. Have you done any Public Quests? Did it seem like you really had to put monumental effort into trying to earn enough renoun for that quest to get a decent shot at a nice bonus to the ending loot roll?

(My fear is that only those with crazy time available will be getting the top PQ loots. Though, if the quests only last for a shorter period of time, then perhaps the PQ campers can't get the extra benefit all the time.)

Keep the info coming!!

Galactic Sivil War hehe :?

Combat is on par with WoW (button mashing) - got several abilities mostly utility bonus attacks - started getting cooler ones at 7th & 8th - a horned squig (more HP & awards you +100% armor) and the ability to make your squig explode goo for an AoE attack (funny as hell in RvR)

Graphics are on par - max is 1280x1024 (SXGA) though (I think they are upping that - 1080i would be sweet) should be able to run 3 screens couldn't find the option to do so (also didn't feel like spending too much time on it)

I have no clue what renoun points are (I was accruing them though) - I seemed to earn them in RvR (instances). I think public quest awards are based on damage done (but could include other points as well such as collecting barrels of beer, chopping down trees etc.). From what I could tell only the top 3 spots get loot (usually at least 20-25 players around for it but not everyone participating in the whole thing (3 'chapters' I think)). I landed 2nd once (out of 15-20 PQs). Coolest part - when you win you get a bag out of the chest - in that bag are 8? loot items to choose 1 item from ALL OF WHICH ARE USEABLE TO YOUR CHARACTER. PQs last about 10 mins. You don't seem to get huge XP for them - I think just for the 1st time you do each then kill XP from there on (which is a fraction of a kill because everyone is wailing away)

Renown is somewhat similiar to Honor in WOW, but also it has its own levels. Goes up to 80 I believe and seems to be one of the chief focuses of "end game".

The public quests seem really cool. I'm very interested in trying those out.

I have to say the more I read the more excited I get. The most enjoyable parts of WOW I find to be the open pvp aspects, regardless of level. To have a whole game essentially devoted to that is really cool.

Oh, I think I used the term renoun slightly out of context then. I read somewhere that while everyone participating in a PQ has a chance at the loot bags (which if won by you, the items are completely class specific so no more wasted "pally" drops when here is no pally in your group/raid (ala WoW)), but the more you participate in that PQ (by doing whatever it involves), the bigger bonus you get to your /random roll.

A very cool aspect indeed. And if they only last 10 minutes, I can't see PQ campers being terribly effective and taking all the loots.

I agree with GoG that the world PvP focus really excites me. Think Southshore raids but all over the place!
