When do you think someone new will remake the Star Wars movies?

I am thinking we may see a remake 50 years after the original release of A New Hope. I'll be old, but not too old.

I hope never....

But in about 20 years, just think...Ewan McGregor would still be around to play the role of old Obi-wan. ( ...and my son would make a good luke! Cha-ching )

At 26 your son will be too old, your daughter might make a decent Leia though.

I agree that Lucas ruined Star Wars with the prequels.

However the story is too big, too famous to remain untouched by Hollywood for the rest of time. I think eventually, one day, someone will revision the Star Wars saga. In 25 years or more could someone come along with the passion and vision to remake them into something we all can be proud of?

What has been done is done, and the result of the whole saga is pretty messed up. The only redemption is to redo them. You don’t think it is possible to do better than the existing films?

You make an excellent point. Look at the batman franchise. The 88 reboot was good, but then it went drastically downhill. The 2004 ressurection could be a good model to base it off of. Darker with a focus on the more adult and realistic human themes that are somewhat subtle or mishandled in the older films.

If Star Trek pans out then I'd have even more hope for a good star wars remake.

However, as fans what will we allow to change? The Actors, obviously will change. Though I'll miss Harrison Ford as Han, it would be great to see stronger Luke and Anakin performances.

But what about the classic designs of the X-Wing, Tie Fighter, and dare I say, Vader's helmet? How much will we as a fan base allow them to change without throwing a fit?

I think a big difference between Star Wars and other franchises is that in the Star Wars situation, one man controls/owns everything: George Lucas.

He's basically the only man that would decide if the movies would be remade. Personally, I doubt he would, given what i know of him.

First of all, he's amazingly rich, and not paper rich like some many you see on the Forbe's list. My understanding is he's one of the richest liquid people in the world. He doesn't need the money.

Beyond money, I don't know. You have to remember that those movies were basically all his vision. Does a man want to try and remake what many people consider a classic? After all, they are his legacy.

It may be that there are no remakes until after he passes on.

Change the design and I will burn a building...
Not kidding.

I don't understand the idea of doing remakes all the time.

And while the prequel was bad in many instances I wouldn't say it ruined Star Wars. On the contrary. I look at Star Wars and couldn't care less about the actors and the bad dialogue... I see a story being told...

But for crying out loud, we just had the prequels during this last decade. And while the classic are 30+ years old I wouldn't want to see a re-make untill GL has passed away and I'm too senile to notice the difference... (I'm 23)..

/throw
*clink* *clink*

That's my two cents...

I could deal with a change in design as long as they looked similar...

for example I can deal with the beefed up Optimus Prime vs. the older one.

I would think that the remake would have to be long after GL passes away, when the estate deems the story worth a reboot. I don’t see it happening anytime under GLs watch, besides for the remake to be good he can’t have anything to do with it. It needs to be a new vision, for me it needs to be darker, more adult, less reliance of CG. For that we need someone like us to make it.

As for the design, it would probably be a long time from now, long enough to where people like us who care about the helmet, or the x-wing are too old to spend time bitching about it on some forums. I think the key to a remakes success is to keep the iconic designs… retain what made the story great.

A Star Wars remake should take the form of a TV Series, preferrably on SciFi/NBC.

Each Movie could be one season, with a added season between Ep.III and Ep.IV, and a Spinoff season after Ep.IV dealing with the Bounty Hunters and Smugglers.

If it's that long away, would there be any point in remaking it? The basic story is derived from many others ... with a twist to it. Those same original stories will be told again many times, but in different forms. I don't think anyone would ever try to remake Star Wars. Or if they did, it would be a rubbish money grabber.

With one or two possible exceptions, I have never seen a good remake of a classic.

Its been 70 years and no one has dared to step-up to remake Wizard of Oz.

Oddly enough I think if anyone were to remake IV, V & VI it would be Lucas.

How long until we see VII, VIII & IX?
