So Metaplace is now in Open Beta. NDA lifted etc etc. http://www.metaplace.com

Thought I'd share some of the stuff I've been working on.

Recharging Health bar (with wounds)

In the middle of expanding on this (so you could get SWGs HAM bars from it... and make them work properly!), and perhaps intergrating it with other simple RPG stuff Raph has made.

Beginnings of a targeting system
Image

A skill toolbar. Still needs a bit of work to make it a useful 'plug-in'.

The beginnings of a SWG style Crossworld pet system (another to get back to). Worlds are typically seperate entities, but this uses web services to send data from world to world (each object in a world, as well as the world itself, can be accessed via the web if you set it up). So you would be able to call the same pet in different worlds, as long as that world had this module installed.

I use such web services to grab the high scores from my tetris clone "That Falling Block Game"

(real-time hi-scores)

I'm really happy with how this turned out. One of the more polished finised projects out there, if I do say so myself :). It was even sitting in the main hub world as an arcade machine for a while. But it was taken out for fear of the dreaded tetris lawyers! Who knows, I may still even get a DMCA takedown notice over it! So I've started playing around with my original idea (I just wanted to make 'real' tetris first so I knew I had a basics right)

Speaking of clones...

this broke a bit with various changes during beta, but still works for the most part. Needs a bit of polish.

A few months back there was a "Game Jam", where you had to make a UI game within six hours. I managed to make Othello/Reversi (it didn't look this fancy after six hours, but the game board, logic etc was all there).

I made these little things that can be seen on the forums over there, in various sizes...

I've also made various plug-ins for the chat system (alerts, acronym translator)

And a few other odds and ends, aborted projects etc, along the way.
So, that's what I've been doing with myself.

Awesome!

I gave up after a few days of looking at it. Partly due to lack of time. Partly due to my computer catching fire (yes really!). Partly due to there being one or two issues with trying to run it on Linux.

I'll probably look into again though.

Cool, chatting with Raph eh? How does the Tetris arena thing work?

The idea was for four-player co-op, where each player has to complete a line to make a ring. The details... well, I haven't thought about them too closely yet :).

Did TileTactics get transferred to Metaplace? If so, can we see it now?

Kinda gave up on that. :)

They just officially released remote embedding, so testing (with a bit of custom BBcode)...

Obo,

With Metaplace "shutting down" what is the future looking like for it? I know Raph has eluded to some positive news coming out soon, but since i haven't been on their beta forums in a long time I really don't understand the scope of what he meant by "shutting down".
